We talkin bout practice

I was reading the practice updates today and I kept bumping into a common theme that has sort of been overlooked. Or at least by me.

Teaching & Leading

I keep reading practice report after practice report where they either are talking about guys learning things quick or teaching each other. Last year you heard more about the need for it etc this year it's examples of it. I swore i wasn't going to chug orange koolaid this season and while I'm not quotes like below have me stoked for the future of 118 and beyond.

“What I like from him is the fact that I see him all the time when I’m sitting there riding (freshmen Dillon Bates and Elliott Berry) he’s over there with a pencil and paper showing them, ‘This is what we’re doing,’ ” Thigpen said. “ ‘In sub, we’re doing this. In base, we’re doing this. Don’t get your worlds confused.’ He’s talking to them about how not to be an erratic player, not to go out there and try to memorize everything, but to put things in buckets and understand, this is how it’s going to work.”

Add in the report of the linemen wanting Gilliam near them as another example of teaching and leadership.


Hell maybe it's the same thing every year but honest to goodness it seems we may actually have a "team".
