Hmm… Like so many of you, it was was certainly hard for me to watch our team squander a halftime lead in Tuscaloosa late Saturday. Watching several recaps of this weekend’s activities, came across two not so surprising articles (above) that didn’t quite sit right with me.
As an alumni, I will always support our VOLS…. kinda hard for me to grasp the “Soldier of Fortune“ mentality that certainly is becoming more pervasive in college athletics (the first article). Even more troubling is second article which basically tells our collegiate “gladiator’s” out there that if you aren’t on track for CFB playoff, it’s best that you hang up your cleats until combine/NFL draft.
Our team several more games ahead of them… including conference matchups with Kentucky, Georgia, Mizzou, and Vandy. I do hope our team can block-out the noise out there and finish strong in 2023!
The game of college football is about inches… grit… and the pursuit of excellence. Let’s all get behind our team for the rest of the season and hope against seemingly insurmountable odds that the game a lot of us have enjoyed for decades will ultimately favor those who give their all for a team and program whose history demands the same.
Go VOLS!
