...and physically.

I've noticed Stoops playing the mind game. He wants to draw us into an emotional game. He wants us to come out swinging and lose control early. He wants our young players to be emotional when they take the field. Don't play Stoops game. :hi:

I tell you how we win. We control the tempo. When you control the tempo you dictate the game. It gives the best chance and stoops knows it. What he wants to do is get these young players emotional. Emotional players lose control, and young people are easy to get worked up.

You need an OL to control tempo.

Know how a smaller boxer wins a match against a larger opponent? He gets in close and fights the underneath game.

This one is about fundamentals. This one is about acting like you've been there before. This one is about NOT losing control. That's the challenge Coach Butch is talking about.

i think he is drawing the attention to him , so his players don't have to worry about it

There's a couple of advantages to playing the psychological game isn't there. We have to know who we are. Then play to our strengths. A smaller, younger frame has advantages too. We are more maneuverable, we are quicker, we have more endurance. Play to your strengths. Keep control. don't play the emotional game. Play the long game. It's a 60 minute fight if you can control the tempo.

If you say it enough times, you actually start believing it. However, what this one IS about is UT doing everything they can to avoid a major embarrassment on national TV.

So much old school football thinking. It's a new game guys. Being bigger can be a liability now. You have to teach the younger guys how to stay in control tho.

Mucho respect for your optimism DD, but I'm not sure I would agree with the bolded above... certainly not to any meaningful extent.

Smaller guys ARE more inherently because they weigh less. We have 4 and more star talent all over the place right now. They are physically able to do this if they play smart and don't lose control of their emotions. It's the same way Ok. Beat ALASALAMI last year.

I'd also be stressing the importance of finishing plays. Make sure you wrap up for instance. Finishing plays will not only help you control what's happening but will get you in a rhythm. If we get into a rhythm...watch out.

Maybe I'm wearing orange shades but I don't think the Sooners are a physical mismatch as we saw so often last year where teams were just faster, quicker and generally more athletic. Hoping Saturday night is not hot and humid and wears us down. If we don't give up the kinds of big plays that doomed us the last 2 years and make Oklahoma go the length of the field to score maybe it's still a ballgame come the 4th quarter.

Coach Jones and his boys don't play with emotion they play with passion. Stoops loses.

I'm on some pretty heavy coffee actually. Cafe Bustelo is awesome stuff. You do know that these young men don't know how to lose right? They didn't lose in grade school, high school, and they have proven themselves able to win in college. The question on everyones mind is...what's going to happen when the game begins to go upside down? How will they respond? If they stay in control they will be fine. If Stoops gets into our heads...If he gets us angry, upset, sad...down....over exuberant...or out of control he's won.

I have enjoyed your posts DD. Don't know that I would want to watch the game with you. Maybe stick to beer on Gameday.
