If Pearl gets sacked, I have trouble seeing any way that his successor will succeed. First, our talent is down--and will be way down if the two good guards we've signed opt to go elsewhere. Second, there will be sanctions of some kind. So the new guy is likely to have two or three crap years to start with--by which time the fans will be in a worse mood and the AD won't be happy either. Most coaches who aren't winning don't last more than four years. So line up a second coach to replace Pearl's successor, who've very likely to get the French razor himself.

1. We know the roster isn't great next year. The fans will give him more than one year.

2. We're not expecting big sanctions.

The extent of the sanctions will not be known during the potential search period. Also, with a wounded (or even new) AD, some of the better candidates may have real reservations.

I think a new AD and a good coach will do the trick. Hopefully a few guys come with him and I don't think the sanctions will be that bad when Pearl is gone.
