Fast Five
1. Vols practiced in shell tops and shorts
2. Darr returned.
3. Medley is missing with a "mild ankle tweak"
4. Croom in green no contact
5. Jones was a bit testy and jumped on Josh Smith during a drill. He also got on Michael Williams and Ryan Jenkins.

Michael Williams had fully shed his cast, though Rashaan Gaulden did not appear to be a participant again as he deals with the wrist/hand injury first reported by VolQuest.com before Tuesday afternoon's practice. Redshirt-sophomore wideout Jason Croom remained in a green, non-contact jersey but again is expected available for Saturday's game.

Tennessee did not appear to have the services on its offensive front of both Marcus Jackson and Dylan Wiesman on the afternoon, though it seems there may have been a class conflict for one or both players. Austin Sanders worked at left guard in place of Jackson, and Brett Kendrick continued to work as the Vols' new left tackle after the season-ending ACL injury to Jacob Gilliam.

AZZANNI: The goal is to have a lot of guys out there who are weapons. That's what you saw on Sunday night. It's night & day from last year.

Gillespie: I'm proud of the way Hurd took care of the ball and made guys miss, but every week there's going to be something he can improve on.

Thigpen: Reeves-Maybin played so well for his first start. Happy with him.

Mahoney: Blair has finally taken some very good strides the past two days. His hands are getting so much better.

Mark Elder on Darr: "Matt's progressing well. We don't think there will be any issues... Just rolled up a little bit- he's fine."

Redshirt freshman Brett Kendrick continued to get the first team repetitions at left tackle, where he is competing with junior Dontavius Blair and freshman Coleman Thomas to replace the injured Jacob Gilliam. Kendrick, who had been listed as the backup right guard on the two-deep, entered for Gilliam when the fifth-year senior suffered his ACL tear on Sunday night against Utah State.

Redshirt junior Marcus Jackson was not present at Wednesday's practice, though that may have been because of class conflict. Redshirt freshman Austin Sanders took the first-team reps at left guard.

This quote about Reeves-Maybin was awesome.

“What I like from him is the fact that I see him all the time when I’m sitting there riding (freshmen Dillon Bates and Elliott Berry) he’s over there with a pencil and paper showing them, ‘This is what we’re doing,’ ” Thigpen said. “ ‘In sub, we’re doing this. In base, we’re doing this. Don’t get your worlds confused.’ He’s talking to them about how not to be an erratic player, not to go out there and try to memorize everything, but to put things in buckets and understand, this is how it’s going to work.”

The boys are slowly turning into men on the field. I love their new cocky attitude. Now, they have to have that swag every game and practice!!
