#SNOWBOWL12 was a lot of fun for a lot of people prior to kickoff. The "whiteout" unis, the flashy helmet logo, the end zones dolled up, Jackie in attendance. It was true pageantry we've come to enjoy as we visit these venues in our new home.
Then they kicked the ball off.
Here's how I saw it:
Offense: #2 once again does what #2 does. If you have not taken a look at Tim Tebow's and Cam Newton's Heisman year stats compared to JFF's, do so. I think you'll be surprised what you find. C-Mike showed the type of Senior leadership I expected him to display all season, and the running game by committee worked seamlessly. The "JFF to Evans" connection is something great to watch still and every week, the former basketball standout amazes me.
Defense: The maddest person in Starkville Saturday, during the 3rd quarter was Mark Snyder. The boys had pitched a shutout till that point and when they finally allowed the bulldogs to reach the red zone, you could sense his anger through the tv screen. Shut outs are special in any league, but on the road in the SEC, they're nearly unheard of. Kudos to the boys responding once again and not allowing the sliver of hope to enter the minds of the kids in white.
Special Teams: So we still need a fg kicker, but other than that, it was more of the same from this group. Even when you're faced with an imposed penalty that provides good field position, the coverage remains consistent. Note to JFF; no more Superman celebrations bro.
Overall: This one was cool, but not nearly as even on the field as the rankings going in implied. I understand that commemorating an Independence Bowl win may be their "thing", but its great to crash a party every now and then. You go "white", we'll go "black".
Next up: Bama.
We'll see.
Gig em.
