I really wished the Ags could have performed better in the second half. Florida did a great job making adjustments and "staying home" on defense which disrupted A&M obviously. The other disruption that increased from the 1st half to the 2nd was the "cramping". That's tough to watch when you can begin to see a rhythm begin to establish, only to be interrupted.
Regardless, there were some things to be encouraged about and some obvious cause for concern. The vertical passing game was mismanaged and the running game never truly got established. I cant ask for a better performance from a freshman qb. He did take some risks and tried to do a little too much at times, but I think with maturity, that'll change.
Defensively, you have to give A&M credit in the first half. For good reason. Of course, the UF feature back was eventually going to get his yards, but I think they were contained well enough to allow the game to remain up for grabs going in to the 2nd half. For that, I'm thankful. I'm also proud of the effort given and how much the conditioning showed after being on the field for a ton of time in the 2nd half. 3 and outs are killers, but this team was much better equipped physically to withstand the onslaught. That's a positive.
From the overall atmosphere, the Florida crowd travelled well and were cool from what I could tell. No big issues there. I think due to the nature in which we host at tailgates, everyone was pleased and there were no real issues. Besides, there's not much to establish any "hatred" now and had the Ags won, I dont think that would have changed. Lose and say little, win and say less.
Next week/this upcoming Saturday in Dallas I'll expect the passing game to move much more vertical. I think the focus to get Swope #25 involved will be key. I'd venture to say that the most important focus will be on finishing strong. It would not shock me to see the score doubled in the 2nd half. Involving the running game through the use of this stable of backs will continue too and I'm certain every carry is an evaluation on who to use when and what we should expect.
That's what I have for week 2. Best wishes to the Vols and enjoy Game Day this Saturday.
