Tough to take another moral victory trophy to the already full "moral trophy case", but there are some legit positives to take away from this loss. Here ya go:
Offense: They were productive early and got out to a lead like they needed to. I said prior to kickoff that neither team plays that well when trailing so whoever draws first blood will have the best chance at the W. From there the turnover bug bit. Some of that falls on JFF, some on just facing a a good defense. They've got some grown boys up front. Johnny wore them down but not out. Kudos to the O-line for keeping him safe for as long as they did. Swope came back and looked good all things considered, and Malena gashed again. We can play with LSU.
Defense: Great job of keeping the explosions from happening and keeping it tight for 4 quarters. I'd say their best were 1st and 3rd, but good teams focus up on scoring going in to the half and closing out. This loss is not on them. They played good ball.
Special Effing Teams: I say that mostly because the fish kicker had a rough one. Real rough in fact. You dont miss PAT. You dont drop one in for 50+ one drive, then when your return man takes it down to the 30 in a big "momentum swing" type play, and shank a chip shot. I dont think he needs to be raked over the coals as much as he is on our site, but he does need to punch through when his number is called. Not super sympathetic towards fg kickers.
What sucked: The turnovers, the silly fish passes from JFF. (He'd own that too if he was allowed to talk to the media) A few calls were sketchy, but calls dont cost games unless you're in Seattle. You gotta play through them. Period.
What didnt sucked but I was told would: LSU fans. 11 am start. Post game drowning of sorrows. They're not a bad bunch really, but I can see the rivalry becoming what everyone else wants it to be again. I'm just not filled with the hate towards them yet.
Barn @ Barn next. We'll see. Need to clean up some things before going on the road though. I'm certain Sumlin has a plan to do so.
Last tid bit and first implied expression of over-confidence from where I'm sitting is this: I'm not afraid of anyone left on the schedule including Alabama. There, I said it.
Gig em.
