Today's practice has been moved in doors as well, closed to the public. Bummer.

So, I went to today's practice and man was it cold. It wasn't so bad the first couple of innings, but the wind picked up....anyway, three and a half hours and 10 innings later...

The numbers on the practice jerseys are very small and that makes it tough to identify the players from where I was. The orange jerseys are really hard to read.

I believe the line up for the Orange team was :

Price RF
Simcox SS
Maddox 2B
Stewart LF
Maggio 1B
Smart 3B
VJax CF
Houser C
Plunkett DH
Serrano P

That's a pretty stacked line up and it showed.

KS is the real deal. He pitched four innings of no hit ball, if I counted correctly he stuck out 4, walked one and had a HBP.

According to the Vol twitter feed, they clocked him at 91 MPH on a pitch. He got in only one trouble spot and after a little convo with dad, he handled it fine.

Nick Williams was up next for the Orange team. He pitched 4 innings of shut out ball giving up 5 hits, no walks and 4 K's. He was really never in any trouble. Williams also had a real nice pick at 1B.

Hunter Martin got the start for the white (grey jerseys) team. He looked okay, a little inconsistent...He gave up 6 runs on 5 hits, 2 walks and 4 K's....these are not official stats.

Brett Marks looked pretty good but at that point I stopped taking notes...too cold to take the gloves off...

Stewart and AJ kept up the roll they were on in Alaska last summer...I think Stewart got on base all but one time, drove in some runs. Simcox looked great in the field, he committed no errors and made a couple of really nice plays.

Freshman, Andrew Plunkett had a homer for the Orange.

Both Schultz and Houser looked good behind the plate. Schultz really kept the ball in front of him well, defensively, he was the better of the two. Houser had at least one if not two hits if I recall, so he won that battle.

The orange squad, offensively, was just dominant. I think everyone in the line-up had hits, timely hits.

There were a couple of, in my estimation, base running snafus, though I think that's just "our style".

Wormsley, Senzel, Lance, Youngblood, and Bily did good work at the plate for the white team.

I'd like to see Serrano go up against the guys that were backing him up today...all in all, a pretty good scrimmage for the first week of practice.
