I welcome Bruce Pearl to Knoxville, Tn , to The University of Tennessee and the Southeastern Conference. I hope every member of the VolNation joins his effort to put our beloved Vols back where they belong in basketball, on top. Thanks to Ernie Grunfeld for helping direct the University towards the man HE thinks can turn our hoops program into a winner. Thanks Bruce for coming and thanks Ernie for your help and concern. Go Big Orange!!!

I will just be happy if we win more than we lose....Like 4 or 5 more though.

A winning season shouldn't be out of the question next season. Especially if the nonconference schedule is eaiser. The losses of Crump and Scooter can be overcome. The big dance may be a stretch though.

I don't know if I'd say a "stretch." I think we'll be returning enough talent to compete. Look, we have the #1 winningest football AND women's b-ball programs in the country (depending on your criteria). Don't you think we should be able to crack the top 64 with our men's program?

Oh, and WELCOME! to Bruce Pearl. Let's all get behind him and show him that

IT'S GREAT TO BE A TENNESSEE VOL!!!!!

I am ready to root the Vols on. I am excited for the Vol fans because it will be exciting for me to visit this site during the season to see all the great Pub you all will be giving Bruce. What Bruce says he will do. He will visit all of the frat houses to get student support. He will walk the campus looking for student support. The alumni will be fired up and the players will respond because they will get to play their style of ball.

NIT is not a realistic goal. That goal is way too low. I am predicting a 20 win season and a couple of surprise victories that will be enough to get us an at large bid. 2 seasons from now we will be talking about competing for the SEC championship. 5 seasons from now we will be talking about how great of a coach Bruce Pearl is. All of these things that should have happened for Bruce 5-7 years ago. You will often hear Bruce say he coaches with a chip on his shoulder. Well, that chip can now finally be removed as he has gotten the chance that he deserves. That chip represented the frustration of all of these sub par coaches getting the elite jobs over him.

Good luck Bruce! These fans are going to love you like we did at USI!

I too would like to welcome the NEW CBP! However, with the style of ball CBP coaches, I'm not sure we have the players to pull it off for the first year or so. Pearl hit the nail on the head yesterday when he said our players are too soft. His philosophy is similar to Nolan Richardson/Mike Anderson's 40 minutes of hell. We must have 8-10 players that can go wide open the entire game. I just hope we have those kind of kids on the roster. I say we gotta give CBP a couple of years before we start acting like bammer fans.

Welcome coach Pearl! You need to know that we are behind you, and that we want you to understand that we have for too long wanted a basketball program that is among the nation's elite.

I, for one, think we should allow Bruce to do his thing and not have too high expectations placed on him before he even moves to town.

I am confident he will get it done, gang, so let's just watch and enjoy. Let's not set out our own plan for what he needs to do.

Watch and enjoy!!! :rocks:

Except the Tournament isn't top 64... Oh well, you probably knew that, though.

How many tourney bids does the SEC usually get?

SEC basketball ain't THAT tough... Certainly tougher than Horizon, but there are tougher conferences. Luckily the SEC still has a good number of auto bids. :good:

I hope that Pearl, a former Tom Davis assistant, does for UT men's hoops what Gary Williams (another Davis assistant with Pearl) has done for Maryland!

Pearly, Welcome to East Tennessee and the Vol nation! We're a good-natured bunch here in the south, big on God, Guns, Gravy, and Git'n-R-Done! You will become part of the family real quick. And being part of the family, you just have to expect to being poked fun at. (That means being the subject of jokes). So if you don't mind, I will take this opportunity to git things roll'n here: What do you call Bruce Pearl's assistant coaches?---Minipearls. Who is the Mother of Pearl?--Pat Summitt. What's it called when Bruce goes out bar hopping with the boys?--pearl diving. How do you reach the Pearly Gates?..jump off the Summitt of Rocky Top...Yeah I know, our jokes are as corny and our liquor. But anyway, We luv ya son, now just go out and show the SEC who thier daddy is!
