Negative Views on Immigration Grow in Italy

More people in Italy hold negative views on the impact of immigration, according to a poll by Demetra published in La Repubblica. 43.2 per cent of respondents think immigrants are threat to public safety, up 3.9 points in two years.

In addition, 34.6 per cent of respondents believe immigrants are a threat to Italy’s culture, identity and religion, and 41.5 per cent say they are a resource to the national economy, down 5.4 points since July 2005.

I wish we could be as "progressive" as Europe and have the same sentiment about immigration here.

Well when you have people here profiting from the illegals and actually taking advantage of cheap labor, people think with their wallets first.

The US has always been more open to accepting foreigners into our society. Hell, that is how our country got started. Europe has not been so accepting.

Can you tell you first hand that Germans still struggle with their large Turkish muslim population. They want the Turks there to sweep the streets and clean their toilets but will never accept them into their society. They are considered outsiders and will probably never be fully accepted or even assimulated into the culture.
