Well, thankfully, the season is now over. We did eventually go out on a positive note, i think. We did win. SO there won't be a sour taste in anyone's mouth about ending another 2 decade winning streak.

But my how things have changed since early September...i love football season. I love watching the Vols play. I plan my entire week around it, and continued to do so, up until the Vandy game.

The bad news is we all had to endure this season with all the hype and expectations surrounding it. We had to endure losses to all of our rivals, none more devastating than the one to Bama for me. We had to endure, and i use the term loosely out of respect for the people and families directly involved, 3 coaches losing thier jobs. We had to endure media types and other fans tagging us as the biggest disappointment of the year, rightfully so i might add. We had to endure game after game of the same mistakes. We had to endure hearing Rick Clause call out the fans. We had to endure the culmination of a lawsuit by Alabama folks...Basically, this year has been hard all the way around, and on everyone involved, much less the fans...

The good news though....change is on the horizon. Something to get a little bit excited about. Newness, it has a funny affect on people. Newness is great right up until the point it's not new anymore. But, it does seem that surely brighter days are ahead...surely we won't have back to back seasons like this one? Right? Hopefully. The good news continues with the fact that we did end with a win. We will be getting some new coaches. We still have a ton of players from that no. 1 recruiting class a year ago that have yet to see the feild. We found Arian Foster. and finally, we may have actually beaten the soon to be SEC champion at thier place. Huh, whoda thunk it Imagine if your an LSU fan....we lost to who!!!

so i guess in all, i'm thankfull the season is over. only becuase it's been a slow painful death, and now i can not worry about it all....no bowl game to stress over. we just get to recruit, and it will be april for the orange/white game before i have to worry about this again. By then, i'm sure we'll all be grins, looking at the upcoming schedule, reviewin opponents rosters looking for the teams we can budget a W against. and already gearing up for the showdowns with LSU, UF, UGA, BAma, CAl and USC....will we get the better of that schedule? Ah, yes, hope. Hope is brought to everyfan during the off season, save this year. This year was an expecation that didn't come to fruition.

Next year will be a season of hope. No one will really know what to expect from us by then. But i can tell you this, it won't be SEC Champs or #3 in the nation to start out.

Which leads me to the point of this little sermon....

Remember way back when......when we weren't necessarily "expected" to be in contention much less win it every year? How much fun was it to win games back then? Even against some of the lesser teams? Well, that's what i look forward to next year...getting back to UT football being fun again....because who knows what's going to happen.

Go Vols.

Great post! I wear my UT pride on my sleeve (if you will). A loss stings me beyond a bee or Dr's needle. Im the kind that wakes up Sat am's no matter the team and believe we can and will win!

I walked out of Neyland numb as a rock after the Sc loss. The hour and half ride home i was blank, we stopped for gas, shortly after stopped off to grab a quick bite to eat, i wasnt hungry, ran into many fans leaving the game that was very chatty. Fire him, fire that, seems to be the majority of the know it all's.
If ive ever been embarrassed of the University i so dearly love, its because of fellow fans. Its too easy to sit back and make excuses or point fingers. Im just a speck in the many that donate because they love the University of Tennesse.

While this season went foul, i found that who you stand beside in line for a coke,or sit beside, could be a parent of a VOL. I was fortunate enough this season to pick and choose where we sat. Met some serious moms and dads, with out names i can say theres a mom who's All Vol. Her son leaves UT as another great D pass rusher. He'll find himself a spot somewhere im confident! Her, well she's a Volunteer freak, she's counting days til Athens.

I think you replied to the wrong thread. I don't see anything in the original post that refers to "low expectations." The poster seems to be glad that this year is behind us and is looking to the future with "hope," seeing the talent that we will return and the outstanding recruiting class from last year.

I, personally, am certainly looking forward to finding out what Cut can do with two physically-gifted QB's, what Foster can do when he returns from a stellar second-half of this season, what a Kippy Brown or the likes can do with our receivers, and how Chavis will continue to field and prepare a tough Volunteer defense. Was this year hard? Of course. But, am I going to bitch and moan all offseason, start next year off on an already negative foot, and lack the enthusiasm and excitement I get every August?

Hell no. Not this Vol.

I guess there's one in every crowd. Enjoy your sticks and coal.
