98 was a good year for the football team, womens basketball team, and the mens basketball team finished 25th, i think...

Only year I can think of that's even close would be 2007. Football was probably ranked 10-15 and basketball had to be top 10ish. I know we hit #1 at some point that year in basketball.

We've never had a year where the football and men's basketball teams both finished the season in the Top 10.

Much less football, basketball and baseball.

That's possible this year.

Throw in the Lady Vols and it becomes less likely, I think. Pity. I miss Pat.

Go Vols!

We do, if you count the 1966-67 basketball and 1967 football seasons. The 1966-67 basketball team finished 8th in the Final AP Poll (21-7 overall and 15-3, 1st in the SEC). See 1966-67 Tennessee Schedule and Results | College Basketball at Sports-Reference.com. That was Ron Widby's senior year, when he averaged 22.1 points and, 8.7 rebounds per game. Of course, Dickey's boys finished 9-1 and 2nd in the Final AP poll for the regular season.

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but this past year, we ranked #1 in all 3 sports..( not finished #1, just ranked) in baseball, basketball, and football for that brief week or so.

Hey, throw baseball in there and we're really talking about possibilities.
Love seeing our Football, Basketball, and Baseball teams not only being ranked but pushing top 10…5…even number 1 throughout the season. Our Basevols were crazy good last year.

And, for what it's worth, there was that recent article, tweet, or Facebook post which indicated that six currently active Tennessee head coaches have, at one time or another, had their respective teams ranked first in the country. That obviously includes Coaches Heupel (1st in the Playoff Poll for one week), Vitello and Barnes, as well as the softball coach. I don't recall the other two sports.

One can make a defensible argument that we may now be entering the golden age of Tennessee athletics, especially with Danny White at the helm.

Don't think we were #1 in basketball, and haven't been since 2019.

Well done, I was just about to say '67, but couldn't remember where the basketball team finished.

Does that count, though? I mean, two different academic years?

In March '67, the basketball season ends, and the lads are ranked #8. Then the school year ends. Everyone goes home. That fall, the football season starts, and by January of '68, the Vols are ranked #2.

However, in the '66-'67 season, the football team ended unranked.

And in the '67-'68 season, the men's basketball squad ended unranked.

So is what you said considered all happening in a single year? I was going by academic year, but maybe you could count it this way?

I believe that most people would interpret this matter as you did, i.e., by reference to the academic year. We clearly don't have many, if any, options from that perspective. So, if we want to give credit where it is due, one could stretch the parameters just a bit and define it in terms of specific calendar years. Even from that perspective, we have very few candidates.

Widby was more than just a basketball player too. My Dad played with him at Fulton and has told me some entertaining stories over the years.
Ron Widby who played four sports at Tennessee, NFL punter, dies at 75
