Ok there are alot of speculations that Shula might or might not loose his job after this season. What do you think from an outside perspective? Will he? Should he?

Please dont use this thread to bash Bama, please. I am just looking for some honest answers. Thanks.

I think it tough to say. I mean coming off a strong year like Bama had last year to being 5-3... I mean its tough to swallow. Look at what UT did last year compared to the year before. In my opinion no I don;t think he should lose his job. Every program is gonna have ups and downs. Just my $.02

I think your program needs stability more than anything else after the Fran/Price fiascoes.

And don't forget that Shula significantly overachieved with last year's team.

Thats true, but a good argument is that we are 1-9 versus our major rivals since he has been head coach. I like Shula dont get me wrong, I was just wondering what you guys thought. We have been in the situation to win most games, but can't close the deal.

nah, he doesn't get fired...yet.

too young at too many positions...this is year 3 right? he needs at least two more years before you can really evaluate him. the first year was a bit shaky, last year was great, and this year he's rebuilding...his recruits are now getting in to the system...by 07 and 08 (his 1st recruiting classes will then be jrs. and srs.) you'll know whether or not he's worth keeping.

1-9? i guess the one was against TN last year?

he did beat LSU and FL last year right?

the auburn thing is what could do him in...he needs to beat them....soon.

Ya some speculate that if he beats Auburn he stays, if he loses hes gone.

I for one think he will stay.

This is only his 4th season, right? Given the mess he walked into, surely he'll get 5 or 6 years. Who would Bama try to hire, Butchie Davis? Are Bama fans genuinely interested Cutcliffe?

As a thirty year resident of Alabama, I am afraid the writing is on the wall. It depends....If you guys can pull off a win against LSU or Auburn it will help his cause. He is wht 0-4 against Auburn, you know that has been the main reason for a few good coaches to move on. But if he can get a win against them All wil be forgotten, memories are short in this state as you know. But if they lose to both teams, one of two things will happen. Either he will clean house and get one season to make something happen, or he will be a casualty. It is sad, but that is the way things are down here. As a coach at bama you are hired to do two things.....#1 Beat Auburn, #2 Win the 13th championship. And you have a short grace period to make it happen.

I have not heard/read anybody talking about who they would want, and alot of what is being said is probably alot of anger/sadness talking. I for one am very optomistic about what can happen in the program within the next 2-3 years. I think we can be a tough team.

Alot of what folks want to see is our OC calling the plays instead of Shula.

one thing i know for sure...with the way Bama has gone thru head coaches of late, if you fire this guy, you better have a home run lined up behind him....part of the reason bama has been down has been no consistency at the HC...recruits see that and wonder....your track record is what it is...if you make a change, make it sooner rather than later.

I don't think they will cut him loose yet because of the probation he came in on.

However, I do think that he is holding Alabama back. I think he is overmatached in almost every coaching match-up in the SEC and that he only got the job because of his ties to Alabama and who his daddy is.

This past Saturday was the second game against just Tennessee that he made a decision to not go for a TD from the 1, and both times Tennessee won the game.

Some guys "have it", and then there is Shula.

I think that ya'll need to give him a chance. You are just a couple of years removed from sanctions, you had a great year last year and this year could still be good. That was a pretty good team that took Tennessee to the mats. Give the man a chance.

My feeling is Alabama Alumni haven't bankrolled players the way they did for past coaches and thats the reason Shula hasn't turned the program around as quickly.

I think his big problems are 1) perceived lack of passion - he just doesn't present himself outwardly as having fire and he appears to ignore the media; 2) his style leads to close games with all types of opponents. Duke was in the game against Bama about as much as Bama was in the game against UT.

That said, I think he should/will be given a couple more years to show he can move the team to the next level. Alabama is still a scary team on the schedule but it has as much to do with the past as anything. They are basically in Arkansas/South Carolina territory and a step below Aub/LSU/UGA/UF/UT.

And remember, The Bear could stockpile players knowing that they didn't fit his style or would never play but he took them to keep them from another team. Shula does have a harder row to go, give him time for his recruits to kick in. :hi:

Most of the Alabama fans I come in contact with just seem to want a different offensive scheme... or ANY offensive scheme.

Sounds familiar.

I'm indifferent on Shula himself at this point. I agree with those that have said his make or break year is next year. That 1-9 record vs. the main rivals is pretty horrendous however.

Give Prothro back to Shula and he will keep his job. JP Wilson is going to be a solid QB in the conference, as long as he avoids injury. However, Alabama has to start beating Auburn, or else their recruiting well will continue to run dry.

They would be crazy to get rid of him this early.

He is a young head coach, this season he has a young QB as well, you all have had injuries to a lot of key people (Prothro is just the beginning, and would have made a big difference Saturday), and isn't this Shula's first year with all of the scholarships back?

I think they should keep him, give him a chance to develop as a coach as well as letting the young talent on the team develop. This may mean he has to give up playcalling responsibilities, but at least let him try that before the ax falls.

...on the other hand, if it is 5 years down the road, and we are still winning in the series on a consistant basis, DEFINATELY keep him!

Part of that is getting an o-line. How long has it been since Bama's had a consistently healthy QB?

Given Bama's actions, I'd say Shula's probably out at this point... Not that it's that bad at the moment, but I don't see the program getting good enough quite that fast to save his job.

Whoever you guys get next, give him the reins for better or worse and stick with him.
