It was great for the VOLS to get the victory today! :lolabove: Congratulations to the team and to the coaches.:clapping: Twenty-two years and counting. But I wonder...

Did Tennessee's offence make Kentucky's defence look that good or did Kentucky's defence make Tennessee's offence look that bad? And did Kentucky's offence make Tennessee's defence look that bad or did Tennessee's defence make Kentucky's offence look that good?

What do you think?

I don't think there's any doubt that Kentucky has a pretty good offense, so I give them props for that. But it is tough to understand why we weren't able to move the ball a little better (we weren't exactly bad though).

UK's offense is that good. Ranked 3rd in the SEC in Total Offense.

UT's defense had a bend, don't break thing going today and gave up alot of yards, but kept them out of the endzone when it mattered. Only LSU and UF's defense held them to less points than UT.

I don't really think Kentucky's defense looked that good either, although the scoreboard says they did alot better than I expected.

Tennessee's offense had the ball, what, 7 times? The posessions resulted in 2 field goal attempts, 2 touchdowns, 2 punts, and a game ending first down, and one of those punts was a result of Ainge not being able to connect with a wide open Jayson Swain on two consecutive passes.

The game was described in another thread as "weird," and weird it was. It wasn't like Kentucky stopped our offense, but there just didn't seem to be enough posessions to get anything going.

Our defense made just enough plays to preserve the game. That's all I have to say about that.

Phil talked all week about not wanting to "get into a shootout" with them. I think it was in Tennessee's gameplan to play things conservative and not "go for the big play". I think they were concerned about making big plays and leaving the D on the field too long and that led to the low output.

That has been Phil's game plan since 1999. Probably why UT is 5th in the SEC this year, but at least the Vols beat Vandy this time around.

Time for a change. I am sick of doing just enough to win the game. We were terrible today. College football is not about being conservative and giving up the big play on third down. We can not be expected to compete for the SEC Championship when both our head coach and defensive coach play not to lose. What ever happened to beating the crap out of your opponent? Well first you have to be able to get a large lead quickly, and that kills us right there. I am sorry, but Fulmer and Chavis are not getting it done. We should have trounced Kentucky today. 3-20 to first down too many times this year. See ya Chavis!

We definitely won the ball control fight today, but could not score nor keep Kentucky from marching down the field. How long will we settle for just getting by? Whoopie 9-3, what a joke! We deserve better.

17-12 against UK, I'm still amazed. What is the problem here? I agree, 9-3 on paper looks good, but knowing how the season went, doesn't impress me too much. I wonder where we will fall out in the bowl season? And who we will play? Kinda worries me

I dont think UK was good at all ....it took a little time but the Gamecocks wore them down and wore them out...pretty much no sweat and an easy win....whats the big fuss?

Looking at the scoreboard, USC had to hold on to beat UK 24-17 after leading 17-0. What game were you watching?

Gamecocks wouldn't know what an easy win is if it hit em the face. How many teams with a winning record did the Cocks beat this year? And Clemson was on the only ranked team they beat all year. Nice work.

well well....are you going to sit and tell me that UK is better than SC? What a joke. SC is a good team ask your coach and the other five that were very fortunate not to be beaten this year by the gamecocks.....news flash......everyone returns with exception to five senior starters.....

Well, their offense is better than USC's. Their defense just plain sucked this year. USC's and UK's records are the same, and UK finished above USC in the SEC East. Draw your own conclusions.

I'm still struck by how strange a game that was. Kentucky punted once on their opening drive I think and ran up 400+ yards of offense, but scored only 12 points. That is really hard to do.

You're kidding, right? The Gamecocks ALMOST choked in the 4th quarter.
