Just saw on ESPN that Mark Richt is candidate for Colorado job. Can't imagine he would even be interested in that job (Georgia in my mind a top tier job, Colorado not) unless the heat is getting to him, and he wants to dictate his own future. If he were to take this job would this be good or bad for us on some key recruiting races down the stretch (i.e. Jay Rome)? And what about the future?

They are likely leaking bigger names in hopes of raising the percieved prestige of the job.

Exactly. They're trying to make it seem more prestigious to entice the Leach's of the world, by acting like it's a destination position.

Colorado would actually be a step up from where Texas Tech was when Leach started there, imo. Colorado does have some tradition and history.

That is a huge stretch. He has no ties there, never coached or played there and it would be a step or three down. So to answer your question it will have absolutely no bearing on recruiting.

Apples and Oranges. If Pete Carroll had left USC a couple months earlier last year, and it was floated out there that Lame was a candidate to leave Knoxville, would that have affected recruits? Maybe, maybe not. Just saying that there has been a lot of heat on Richt this year. Talk has been that change could be both positive or negative for Georgia's recruiting future. What I'm wondering is if Richt is a candiate from Colorado, or if he's floated interest because of his current situation.

For the record I can't see him leaving Georgia for Colorado.

"What did muschamp being a candidate for utk do for their recruiting?"

This may be Richt putting his name out there to make himself seem more attractive to UGA than he really is.

If they lose to GT, who knows, CU may get him cheap.

The source was someone with the CU search commitee

...it means that Colorado has been smoking crack if they think they could ever land Richt.

If Richt goes there he is a fool. He hasn't won an SEC championship in how long? In one of the most fertile recruiting grounds in the Southeast. And all he has to do is win 9ish games a year to be retained. Why leave that?

According to what I heard the other day on ESPN, Colorado is having some financial difficulties with their athletic program. TIFWIW, but they said that they don't see them paying an upper tier coach's salary...

What does it mean for recruiting? If for some strange reason Mark Richt lost his mind and left for Colorado, it wouldn't mean anything for recruiting if they hired a good recruiter. Pretty simple.

Colorado is a great school but at best a 3rd tier football program. They were horrible until Bill McCartney got there in the 1980's. Dan Hawkins was a good coach at Boise State but if he can't win there, Richt can't either. Richt will say at UGA until they fire him or he retires.
