What? Harold Reynolds fired from ESPN?

The quality of ESPN's baseball coverage just improved immensely. There was no more poorly prepared, marble mouthed commentator in any sport. Good riddance.

You're right. But it's also like improving from the Gobbledygooker to Doink.

Kruk, Brantley, and Phillips are all equally as bad as Reynolds. Fire those 3, and baseball commentary still sucks due to Joe Morgan and Tim McCarver being employed by ANYBODY.

I didn't mind Harold. Then again, I don't watch Baseball Tonight much.

Brantley has a smugness about him like people actual care what a life-long mediocre at best pitcher says.

Get well soon, Peter Gammons. I could listen to him or Tim Kjurkican (sp?) talk about baseball all day.

I disagree completely about Brantley. He is as knowledgable as any analyst in baseball. He could step in and be a successful GM tomorrow. Kruk is at least honest. His rip on A-Rod last night was classic. That's probably why Reynolds left. He's a professional suckup who couldn't stand to hear someone tell the truth about one of his favorites.

Baseball people certainly listen to Brantley. Jim Bowden, Brian Sabean, and Walt Jocketty have all said he's the smartest player they ever had on their respective clubs. Also, I don't think you lead the National League in saves being mediocre.

He very well may be. Like I said, I don't catch Baseball Tonight much and what I have seen of him he has that smug look on his face like he knows everything. Perhaps he does and I should start listening.

I will grant that Jeff has a very high opinion of his own intellect.

At the mention of Brantley's name, I couldn't help but remember how vocal he recently was in his opinion that a closer should never enter in a non-save situation, even in a tie game. I couldn't disagree more. I'll miss Reynolds. I liked him, but as for the suck-up comment, I agree that I don't remember him being critical of a big-name player. How about espn.com and SportsCenter saying, "ESPN has confirmed..." and "the company has no further comment." As if the reporting and the network are separate entities!

What else would you expect a former closer to say?

The best crews on Baseball Tonight were Ravech, Kruk, Gammons, and Reynolds. I will miss him a lot for the excitement he brought to highlights. Much better than Steve (Has Been GM) Phillips or Hershiser.

I think he left the hospital last week and was undergoing rehab.
