Love the boys but the OL looked terribly overrated last night. Mo-Tigs defenders just blew through the line far too often. The guys coming in off the corner spots all but lived in our backfield. They pressured Dobbs repeatedly, stuffed our RBs like geese being prepped for roasting.

Vols Defense showed they can but I don't why they don't put serious pressure on the Mo-Tig QB. Might be because if you rush in he takes off and gashes us for serious yardage repeatedly.

Our guys still have big trouble tackling in space. The way the Mo-Tig's QB, RB, and others just slipped right by our guys and ran away from us was embarrassing.
We just don't have the speed we need for pursuits. Or wrapping up for tackles. I watched the Gator-Dawg game and their defensive players' pursuit and closing speeds was amazing to see. We used to be like that.

Dobbs, as expected, the sunny day Vols fans are butchering the guy, merely for being a freshman and playing like one in his first SEC start against a quality opponent. With fans like these, our Vols don't need opposing fans, we got them right here at home.

Dobbs has Bray-like velocity in his balls. He's more accurate than his stats indicate. His main problem is his receivers (sigh, hate saying this) can't catch or hang onto the ball. Sadly, Worley had this issue too. I saw Dobbs' ball all but delivered on a silver tray into the hands or chest numbers of players who just dropped the ball or let it slip through their hands. Yeah, I saw the mistakes Dobbs made but if more of his catchable balls had been caught, the score would have been closer.

Dobbs clearly has feet that know how to move. He can clearly dodge would be tacklers. If he got better blocking, he'd probably either score or consume yardage in 40-50 yard chunks for most runs.

After around 2.5 quarters, the team didn't play with electricity anymore. It was as if someone had dialed down their energy level. It was painful to watch by mid 4th quarter -Alert! Woodsmanvol is about to make a damning confession- I did something I have never ever done before. Something I hope I will NEVER, EVER do again. To my shame, and disgust as I write this, I turned off the TV and went to bed. But it was hard to look at myself in the mirror this morning, having done that.

Stopped watching at halftime. I don't really regret it. I probably will after I sleep on it, though.

I watched every minute of it. All the while knowing that this is not a very good team with serious faults. I kept telling myself to remember this feeling because The VOLS are going to get better than the teams that are currently humiliating them and that pay back is a B****!

I'll watch every minute of those games too.

I stand at full attention and salute you, sir.
Am not proud of my shameful act. The pain
was just too much at the time. Still. . . .

I watched the whole epic failure. There was at least 1 very coherent comment by the announcers. They mentioned that Richardson had said a few weeks ago that the buildup about Clowney was nothing because the Mizzou defensive line was much better and would be tougher. He was right.

Tiny needs to take a good look at that because every week on the NFL looks like that. I think he needs to stay for another year.

I can't tell if our O-Line is overrated or if they just didn't show up. Regardless, Dobbs should have had 2-3x the amount of time was given and there were absolutely no run lanes for the backs. I understand when they stuff the box, but they were also only sending 3 on many plays and giving them a hard time.

Vols Defense showed they can but I don't why they don't put serious pressure on the Mo-Tig QB. Might be because if you rush in he takes off and gashes us for serious yardage repeatedly.
I didn't think our defense did horribly bad, aside from the awful showing from our safeties. I think this was the third game this season that really exposed the lack of team speed we have on that side of the ball (vs Oregon & Bama as well).

Yup, here's to hoping some of the new boys Butch is recruiting have some speed.

For the record, I haven't said one bad thing about Dobbs yet - kid was fantastic given the circumstances and got better every series in the second half. He had NO help from the O-Line OR the WRs. If the WRs catch passes, the game is easily within a TD at halftime and we have ourselves a game.

Agreed. I'm ready to send Josh Smith packing. That kid couldn't catch a nerf football underhanded by granny.

I was blown away by his speed. Definitely isn't Manziel in the speed department, but he had some solid runs. Fast enough to make the read-option actually hold a defender.

I turned it off early too - no shame when the boys don't show up IMO. I'll watch it later w/o commercials and sped up.

I agree - he could make millions by staying and actually playing up to hype next year.

Whoa, bud. No way I accused you of Dobbs hating.I originated the thread. The focus was on what I saw during the game last night. The reference to those butchering Dobbs comes from other threads I had read before starting mine. And stated without naming anybody, so no individual was targeted. Just to get the record straight. Dobbs is indeed being butchered by sunny day only fans in other threads. A shame but typical of the maniac-depressive nature of too many VN posters. Orange clad Bamas is what I think of them.

Excellent post and breakdown of Dobbs. I thought before the game that our OL might have trouble against Mizzu's DL. They are fast. They were a matchup nightmare against our OL for pass blocking and it showed. Dobbs had to release the football early all night. Dobbs did a fine job not just for a freshman, but any QB getting that kind of pressure and WR's constantly dropping the football. I'm actually excited about our future with Dobbs. If others aren't, the. You might want to go back to football school.

May not have been Ol's best game but I rarely heard sams name called which was good...also I think most of the reason we lost rests on the fact that we had a freshman running the offense...a lot of overthrown and poorly timed passes which he should correct with more experience and practice...I love the way this kid runs tho and I think we will be dangerous when he figures it all out. There were some positives to take away from this game... people need to step away from the ledge and look forward to next year imo. We got a lot of talent coming in and I really think help is on the way!!!...GBO!!!!

Another week, more retarded threads. Did you people actually think someone was going to turn around a team Dooley had his hands in for 3 years in just one season?:crazy::crazy::crazy:

Man this is sadly true. I love the players but they just need to get that Dooley out of them.

I agree with you about Josh Smith. If he doesn't improve that guy won't see the field next year because all of the other WR are getting better.

Agree. Its stunning to watch how quickly people will turn on a guy after one bad game. Posters will build up ridiculous expectations in their heads that aren't grounded in reality and are without context, and when team 117 doesn't live up to those expectations......why, it can't possibly be the fan's own faulty expectations so it must be that suddenly Butch ain't the guy. It's nauseating to say the least.

A lot of the reason we lost rests on the whole team. Especially our OL and Defense and dropped balls a critical times. No doubt Dobbs had some bad freshman moments last night, but a good team overcomes these mistakes by making defensive stands and getting the ball back. Our defense was horrible in the first half. They hung 30+ points on us last night. Our QB did not lose this game for us. Not even close. In fact, Dobbs made some big plays which kept drives alive when no one else did. If I'm CBJ after that game, I calling out the OL, WRs, and defense for not providing better support for a first start by a true freshman. If I'm praising anyone, it's Palardy. He was Dobbs only ally last night.

I too could take no more, I did the same at the beginning of the 4th. That was the first time this year I've seen our beloved Vols play half a*#. That needs to be corrected!!!!

I too had too turn it off. Pretty much new what it was gonna be but couldnt take anymore.

I thought butch completely changed the game in the 1st qtr by going for it on the 4th and five. Missouri was doing nothing and we could have pinned them back again. Instead, our nervous freshman qb throws the ball to high. The field was flipped and the rest is history.

Not blaming dobbs for the throw. He should have never been asked to make that throw early in the game.

We were way to pass happy from the start and the jet sweep needs to go in the garbage can.

OP pretty much sums up where my head is as well. I thought we were better and Mizzou not as good, turns out I was wrong. Hate to say it but I think Butch lost the team somewhat after the Bammer game, they mailed it in at Mizzou, will mail it in against Auburn, War Eagles will blow us out, we'll put up token resistance. I do expect the team to rebound against Vandy and UK, win those two and go bowling. They're not going to put forth much more effort than necessary from here on out. The seniors on the OLine just looking to not get hurt ala "the Clowney disease" not wanting to take an injury into their NFL careers. Dobbs will eventually be great, but he cannot do it by himself as a true freshman.

Tiny needs another year to mature. Tiny, Jackson and Wiesman will form a nice nucleus to the line next year.

Have no idea why we went for it on 4th and 5 on the road with a freshman QB. Especially with how reliable Parlady has become.

That call and the Smith drop over the middle completely changed that game.
