What I would do with All Star Race

This was by far one of the least exciting All Star Races I've ever saw and I've watched every one of them. I think they need to shorten the race quite a bit and to make up for shortening the race I propose they do an All Star Race for the Natiowide cars and the Trucks the same night. Make it a true NASCAR All Star Race.

Start out the night with the Sprint Showdown as always. Two 25 lap segments. Segment 1 transfers a car and segment 2 transfers a car that way they are racing to win or go to the trailer.

Next up Trucks with their All Star Race. A 20 lap segment followed by a 10 lap shootout. Possible inversion after 20 laps - spin a wheel to see how many are inverted - anywhere from 0 to 10 trucks. NO Cup or Nationwide guys can race in this race.

Follow that up with a Nationwide All Star Race with a 25 lap segment 1 and a 10 lap segment two. Same rules apply as above with possible invert up to 10 cars. Here also NO Cup guys in this race.

Cup All Star Race - 3 segments - 20, 10, and 10 laps. After the first 20 laps winner gets $1,000,000. After second segment winner gets $1,000,000. Possible invert after segment two up to 10 cars. Segment 3 pays $1,500,000. If a driver wins all 3 segments he gets a $2,500,000 bonus. Surely if you put 1 million up for each of the first two segments that would make them race hard the whole time. And with the chance to win all 3 and get a super bonus that would make them race hard. At least in theory.

I agree with some of what you're saying, but I wouldn't be a fan of a Camping World or Nationwide race.

1) The Sprint Showdown goes for 20 laps. The leader advances to the All Star race. A caution then comes out and a 10 lap restart ensues. The leader at the end of that advances.

2) Segment 1 goes 40 laps with a green stop mandatory, but no specifcs on tires or fuel. Segment 2 goes 25 laps and is followed by a 10 minute red flag. During the 10 minute break, the fans have the opportunity to vote on an inversion of 2,4, or 8 positions. Segment 3 is 10 laps and a dash to the win. Pit strategy wouldn't be required because an inversion would force the teams hands. The payout would be simple.

3) 95% of the purse would pay to the winner and the rest of the positions would get identical money. Winning all 3 segments would be a 100,000 dollar bonus.

The fan vote thing wouldn't work because everyone knows the fans would choose to invert 8 cars and you would have guys sandbag to try and finish 5th, 6th, or 7th in that segment knowing they would get to restart the final segment in the front. If it were a spin of the wheel type of deal they couldn't do that because they wouldn't have a clue where the wheel would land.

One not so stellar All-Star race and everyone wants to change everything? I don't understand it. Even an event like the All-Star race isn't going to knock your socks off every time. Expecting every race to be like 1992 will only set you up for disappointment.

I wouldn't change anything in the main race, but I would change the Showdown. I think they should go back to spitting the field into two races and the winner from both races making the big race. Keselowski didn't race Ragan hard in the closing laps of this years Showdown because he knew he still got in with the runner-up finish. Settling for second is the opposite of what the All-Star race is about. So for Showdown racers, win your respective race, or go home.

If they canceled it I wouldn't be upset. Too much tweaking and getting cute with it has made it stupid, like every other thing they "change with the fans in mind"

And as for an All-Star race for the lower series without Cup drivers, really what is the point? Face it, the All-Stars in the lower series ARE the Cups drivers. I hate it, but it is the truth. I wish the Cup drivers would stay out of the other series, but when they do, each series has maybe four or five "All-Stars", and that number is a stretch.

I would like to submit 2008's caution free All-Star Race as the most boring. With that being said, I would like to see the showdown be just 25 laps of balls to the wall, have at it racing with just the race winner and fan vote winner advancing. Then make the big show a 30 lap opening segment with a mandatory stop, followed by a 25 lap segment at which point they invert cars by a random draw, then go 10 more laps.

I pretty much agree except for the part in bold. I wish they would do away with the fan vote. Everyone knows that was only out in to protect Fail Jr.

I agree that the race sucked. Having a field inversion can work both ways. If you make the payouts for seg winners high enough(maybe 250-500k) then maybe that would cancel out the sand baggers.

Spin a wheel with up to 10 on it including 0 for no inversion. Have the fan favorite do the spin.
