I'm kind of sorry that we don't have a shot at the Irish this year. It would be nice to get some revenge and beat the media darling this year. Any thoughts on how it would go if we got a chance to take them on. Maybe we'll get a chance in a BCS game. (I know it's early to make an assumption like that so I wanted to say it before everyone else does) Just a what if situation.

They were the only team not named Auburn to beat us in 2004. I am glad we are not playing them this year.

Like them or not ND is solid, not great like the media wants everyone to belive but solid. It's hard to judge either team after one game. After week #3 we should have a good feeling about a possiable matchup. Right now I'd say we win at home by 10 and lose there by a touchdown.

I think had Cutt been calling the plays we would have taken the 2004 game. I would agree with Rocky Top's call right now but would also like to see some more games from both teams before trying to make a prediction on something like this. I do believe Coach Weiss will have the Irish ready to play much better against PSU.

Cut calling the plays, we likely have a special season in '04.

Tough to blame that one on playcalling. We were on our 3rd QB in the 2nd half of that game.

I think we'd win. ND is vastly overrated. Their offense is good, but not that good. And any team with NFL-prospect wide receivers and a qb capable of simply delivering the ball would eat their secondary for lunch.

What is their running game looking like this year? I was to busy flipping between games to really notice. I also don't think a pro-style offense works as well in college. Ask Miami's new O.C. how well it worked for him.

Ask USC how well it worked out for them. As with most contemporary offensive styles in college, it just requires competent coaching, good players to make it competetive, and above all... Execution.

2004 was pretty amazing (record-wise) considering that the 2 guys ahead of Clausen were true freshmen. Play-calling wasn't the problem.

Mechanics and decision making were. Still something that would likely have been different under Cut.

idk. We probably would have beat Notre Dame and made it to the... Capital One Bowl? Or stayed in the Cotton Bowl. We just didn't have the players to beat Auburn.

How can you tell that from one football game? I mean, give us a break - Calvin is the real deal. I don't see too many DBs that are going to contain that guy...

Maybe not once EA got hurt, but can you see 1)us running a play at the end of the half under Cut, or at least 2) EA attempting to pick it up and still make a play.

I know it is all speculation, but with him in the SECCG we would have had a shot.

That's what I keep telling people. Ga Tech was no pushover. They have a history of giving top teams fits.

Well, let me say this - ND was WAAAAAAAYYYY overhyped coming into that game. I'd put them at about #9 or #10. Obviously there is a lot of work to do before the PSU game this weekend. Overall - C-

I guess to answer the original question - I don't know. UT looked real good last saturday. I'm glad we don't play you this year...

I think the reason we lost that game was because we just couldn't keep up with them quite enough when they had the ball... It would have been closer if Ainge played, yeah, but that was one good football team.

The score was pretty close as it was Milo.

GRJ had the best game of his LIFE.

I know Calvin Johnson is a freak athlete. But I also remember Notre Dame's defense as particularly unimpressive from last season, and I haven't seen anything to suggest it being improved.

Well, we did not have Cutcliffe in '04 and Notre Dame did not have Weiss...

historically, TN and ND have always played pretty close games, minus the 99 game anyway...

i would think that if they played this year it would be no less. a lot would depend on where the game is played imo, and when. I'd like our chances against thier D, but they do have play makers.

I think for the most part the game might play out a lot like it did last year, minus the 4th quarter debacle we had...it'd be close one way or another. I don't think either one would blow out the other.

ND is solid, thats true. But I just have faith in this UT team and I believe that UT would beat ND.
