What if the players read this forum?

anonymity allows some to be more harsh than necessary but I hope nothing about their play on the field is a surprise. Pointing out mistakes and discussing them isn't really a bad thing

Too bad that doesn't work in the politics forum.

they would realize a small % of vol fans post here and an even smaller % who actually go to the games post here

I would tell them I'm an expert at football because I coach 7th grade flag football.

I would think the coaches have told them that it's to their benefit to not come on any of the message boards. Not that they can keep them from it, but I would advise them not to. To much stupid crap on here, and some of them could be offended, hurt, or whatever by some things said on a message board. But, if they do, hopefully they realize that 90% of the people posting on here have never played a down of football in their life, and have absolutely no idea what they are talking about.

I think the players would get a kick out of the poor grammar, lousy spelling, and improper use of homonyms on this site (there, their, they're, etc).

Also, "then"/"than" really bugs me.

I totally agree that there is no shortage of grammatical atrocities committed on this site (and it still isn't anywhere near as bad as on Facebook), but honestly, I doubt they would notice. My mom is a high school teacher, and in terms of grammar, they're just getting worse. I hated grammar as a kid, but I've really come to appreciate it now. A single comma can completely change the meaning of a sentence.

The coaches instruct the players not to read the message boards in order to preserve their mental focus. The recruits read the message boards and are all very impressed at how good the fans are at bashing players. They look forward to the day when they can be referred to as garbage. It encourages them to come give their all.

I get what you're saying, and agree that it's a shame that some of our fans are so quick to label players as garbage. That being said, there are sooo many factors that recruits consider when choosing a college, and I'd say message board fodder sits pretty low on their lists.

Regardless, I'd love to see our fans display more class on here. After all, one thing is for sure: Trashing players on here certainly doesn't HELP us get recruits. It may not have any effect at all, but if it does, it's sure to be a negative one.
