With the window of early commitments closing given that no big names are "left on the board". I think Tennessee keeps recruiting alot of guys into the fall and see what happens with them.

For example, what happens if the Tennessee offense and Crompton is successful and the high school quarterbacks get a feel for the offense.

What happens if Lamaison indicates he can play? If so then suddenly there isn't as much pressure for this class.

What if Notre Dame struggles? the heat is going to be hot on Charlie Weis and that might open the door for Hendrix and or Rees.

And I think the Vol staff will keep looking for guys who they were intrigued by this spring and want to see more of this fall.

Feel free to add your own what ifs as they relate to the current QB situation.

Off subject....

Any idea who a potential recruit (looked like a QB) touring UT with Chaney today was.

Light skin african american kid, about 6'2

Buddy of mine on the team said Chaney was showing him around everywhere. he did not get to talk to him, but felt pretty sure it was a QB....any ideas?

It's July, we haven't fielded a team, and there are probably bigger things at hand than what is going on than our QB recruiting. In fact, I'm more concerned if we can protect Crompton/Stephens in the pocket than I am with who may play QB in 2011 or 2012. There are just too many things that are more important right now.

Now, even though I believe those things are the case, don't get that confused with the fact that our coaching has seemed to handle this QB search very poorly by observations. They had a chance to at least take a #2 twice, and both of those guys committed to Notre Dame. Scroggins is getting ready to spurn us by all accounts to date, and there is no one else out there that the staff is that interested in.

Just think of things like this, if we don't play well and if we had a BIG commit, would they look elsewhere based on on the field performance?? Or, if we do well on the field this year, who will be turning there heads toward us and paying attention??

BTW, has anyone other than me watched the new Scroggins amp vid?? For some reason, when he talked about UT and Memphis being his mother's hometown, it just struck me like he thought UT was in Memphis. Anyone else get that??

That description sounds like Scroggins...

I know that's not who it was, but that's who I first thought of when I read that.

Like 391 said, it was TE Trey Millard. WE REALLY need Millard...

I just sent him Millards profile and he said he looked like the same kid. Kind of hard to tell because all pics he has a helmet on.

BTW, he said that NUKE, little Rogers, and BB have all looke awesome in 7 v 7 the past week.

It's hard to tell how good these freshmen will be until they really start practice, but the reports so far are awesome. Zach Rogers is doing some big things...

ive noticed that before, he acts like memphis is where UT is located, instead of knoxville... i no he has family in tennessee then just in memphis, but not sure where... so the fact that he says that is a big reason in y he might choose UT is kinda weird bc, m-town to k-town is a FAR drive every satyrday

I think someone said Scroggins also has relatives in Nashville. I don't remember who said it or if it's true though.

EDIT: never mind, Lord Vader beat me to it :)

Oh yes it is! I will make that drive a few times this year but it's so worth it! Nothing better than driving I-40 during the Fall to go watch the Vols play!

His comments about Memphis are canned comments that he has used for a while. It seems inconsistent considering the distance, but that is because, IMO, he doesn't really care about it and hasn't thought enough about it to realize just how far it is. It's just something that he says on his list of "good things", not something that he really cares about, IMO.

obviously there are "what ifs" that are opposite of Brent's "what ifs"..

What if the offense is horrible and all 3 QBs play poorly??

What if the Lamaison kid is a total flop?

What if ND wins 10 games??

not UT QB related, but if butterflies had machine guns on their wings.... birds wouldn't mess with them!

Heard that this morning and had to pass it on.

What if Corp starts over Barkley causing Barkley to redshirt while TN's offense looks great? Does Scroggins switch his USC commitment? (assuming thats what he does)

he could. if he does, likely still remains on west coast. travel cost is a family problem. if he is good enough for USC to take, he would have plenty of west coast options IMO.

I think far too many UT fans are not putting enough emphasis on the family financial situation... over riding driving reason for choice in my opinion.

I've said all along, I won't be surprised if kid signs with soemone different then to where he commits. Just a feeling I get..

If he commits to USC, being 20 minutes down the road, I can't see him switching his commitment barring something unforeseen, IMO.

LWS that is a very good point, but it seems if this was such a big factor why would TN and FL even be in the mix at this point?

Eric do you not think that if Corp starts over Barkley and he redshirts that couldn't change Scroggins perception of his amount of time as a starter there?:dunno:
