What does this position entail?
Is this due to the number of coaches limit?

Yes, this is how you get around the limit on the number of coaches.

This is a big brother.

The coaches are the bad cop...this role is the good cop.

All part of the plan to have muschump on his knees in september.

It is coming together nicely!!!

This position is to ensure the overal theory of the defensive coordinator's style of play is being carried out by all defensive positions and units. For example; this position will work with timing of blitzes, shifting defenses, rotating players, breaking down film for position coaches, etc.

For those that may remember , a former Vol Bo Hardegree, QB from about 8 yrs ago is the offensive quality control GA for LSU. GA requires a lot of work and time.

A quality control coach is basically an assistant to the position coaches. They have a role in on field coaching and are in therory being trained to become a position coach. The quality control coach also studies film of upcoming opponents making notes about formations, tendencies and opponents player personell used in certian situations.
They also fall under "any additional duties as assigned by the position coaches", i.e recruiting, trip planning etc.

Can they accompany the position coach (or the assistant coach assigned to recruit a geographical area) on recruiting visits? I think it would be beneficial to have him along for a visit with kids who may or may not remember as much UT history as we do.

Don't think he can recruit off campus.

One role is to monitor off-field activities of the defensive players. Not just bar fights, but classroom, etc.

He cant go into their homes, but when the kid comes on campus and tFair shakes his hand and starts telling SEC Championship and NFL stories, the kid will be listening.

Terry has a way with words. Recruits will listen. Current players will listen. Current coaches will listen. Fricken great hire, and it pisses me off.

Im a big tFair fan. If it is possible for a Gator to have a "favorite vol", it is tFair for me. The dude was a stud here. And then with the Lions, damn man, loved the guy.

Ive been listening to him on WNOX the last couple years. Love his views, love his knowledge, love his passion for his school.

The dude "gets it". He has X's and O's, and connections in "the league", he has the experience that the kids are looking for, and damn that man can tell a story. He is a great communicator. He is going to speed up the path to the top for the Vols. And Im not sure Florida is ready for that.

sigh.

So, is it safe to say Sal didn't have a defensive quality control assistant?

I was at the Mizzery game, about 14 rows up, and my kid (one of yer LadyVols, no pics) was getting ticked at Dooley because about every other play I would mumble something about "Linebackers are too deep" "Corners are too wide" "Thats the wrong angle" Simple stuff that some long ago HS defensive line coach, like myself, could point out, but Dooleys staff was screwing up.

tFair is going to solve that little stuff. And there were so many little things that could be changed and this team is tons better. Sweeping Dooley out was the best move, now bJones and staff will take care of the little things.

Bittersweet days for me. I want my kid's school to do well....cept for one weekend each fall.
