Brad Stevens has pretty much established himself as one of the top basketball coaches in the country at the age of 36.

Does anyone have any insight on if Brad Stevens will ever leave Butler? Is he trying to build Butler into the next Duke?

Perhaps he is waiting for a top 5 job to open up?

What say you Volnation?

I met Coach Stephens once when I lived in Indy. He strikes me as someone who is very comfortable with his position. He and his wife are from Indy area. Butler is the type of school where he will recruit 4 yr players and teach his system without any pressure regarding job security.

He might leave in the future but it would have to be a very good position and a place which matches his low key personality.

From what I know he has no intentions of leaving anytime soon. He loves Butler and wants to build a dynasty there

Like our buddy Franklin at Vanderbilt

Completely different. Franklin is holding out for a really good job, Stevens is from Indiana and is rooted deep in the state. The only job he'd leave for is IU and with Crean there I don't see that happening any time soon

Ever so often, there are people who place personal and family satisfaction above other things such as image and success. In the realm of college coaching, this certainly presents an enigma.

why leave? Go chase the money and be potentially out of a job in 3-4 years? No sense in it. He has what he needs. He can make NCAA runs every year. He basically has a lifetime contract. He is a multimillionaire.

I wouldn't go anywhere, unless things started to fall apart.

It's refreshing to watch him do what he's doing. Young guy with a family that's dedicated to the people that brought him to the dance. Keep at it, I say.

I was born in TN but grew up in Durham, N.C. That being said I love Duke basketball. But I have a lot of respect for the Butler program. From my understanding it is comparable to ETSU in size. Never in a million years thought they wouldve taken the Blue Devils to the wire a few yr ago in the championship game. That coach seems happy where he is and I dont blame him. Being the giant killer is pretty cool.

At 147-42 in five plus seasons with 4 tourney appearances, and two championship game appearances I'd say that the dynasty is already there.

A dynasty to me is winning multiple championships.

Butler has gone from being a reliable mid-major squad to something far more important under Stevens. For a private school of 4K in Indiana to be beating UNC and IU is incredible.

ETSU is much larger

He'll leave eventually.

My opinion is no more invalid than the people who believe he'll stay forever. Nobody can read his mind and while you might think he'll stay forever, he's 36 and been there for 4-5 years. Do people honestly believe he'll spend the next 30 years there til he retires? I don't.

I believe he'll eventually leave for Indiana, Duke, North Carolina, Kentucky, UCLA, Kansas, Illinois, Texas etc. when the right time and opportunity presents itself. Maybe he'll even take a program with all the resources but has never been on top just so he can put his stamp on the program. I'm not sold Chris Petersen will stay forever either, especially if conferences continue expanding and Boise State gets left out, which they most likely will. Most likely destination... Texas. Mack Brown sucks and the combination of Chris Petersen/Texas would probably be deadlier than Saban/Bama.

I can see the big 5 (UK, Duke, UNC, Kansas, or UCLA) and UCLA will probably come calling a lot sooner than the other schools. I don't think UK, UNC or Kansas is going to be opening up anytime soon so maybe Duke. I for sure don't see the guy leaving unless it's one of the best jobs in the country because he can write his own paycheck at any of these places.

If Texas ever got a decent coach it would be so easy to accumulate and then coach that talent. They acquire it now and do nothing with it. If the Aggies are smart they'll leverage this sec thing coupled with Texas being down by keeping sumlin. I think huge money comes callin next year if they win 9 or 10. Mack has one more year IMO. The leash is gone with him.
