I think it is Virginia. Some of the good players that have played HS in Virginia are Percy Harvin, Tiki and Ronde Barber, Aaron Brooks, Dre Bly, Plaxico Burress, Shayne Graham, DeAngelo Hall, William Henderson, Rudi Johnson, Julius and Thomas Jones, Bhawoh Jue, David Martin, Jerome Mathis, Heath Miller, Darren Sharper, Lee Suggs, Mike Vick, Kelley Washington, Ernest Wilford, Jimmy Williams, Charlie Garner, Marvin Mitchell, and Jerod Mayo. VA does not get as much publicity as CA, TX, FL do, but there are some great players that have come from Virginia. Any other underrated states?

I think it's South Carolina... I know UT goes down there and plucks big-time defensive linemen from the Palmetto State. Every now and then they'll produce a really good athlete but every time I see South Carolina I think DL or OL.

I agree. The Tidewater area is loaded with talent. It's great to see big schools coming to VA to recruit these guys. This way they all dont go to the chokies at VT.

Another good one is New Jersey. THey usually have good talent like Dwyane Jarrett and they have always been sprinkled around the country because of no good instate power until now.

yep I have been to a lot of games in the tidewater region and they have some extraordianry athletes but it seems like for a long time the only ones who knew about them was Tech. It must be something in the water.

Jersey's where McBride came from and Rashad Baker might have also, im not positive on that.... both of them were good Volunteers.

Yes, Baker was from New Jersey. UT also signed a kid in the 90's named Anthony Hampton who was a 6-5 WR rated in the top 10 in America. He beefed up and was turning into a good MLB before being dismissed from the team.

He was in the same recruiting class as Peyton Manning. UT's WR class that year was loaded...Marcus Nash, Maurice Staley, Andy McCollough, Greg Kyler, and Hampton were all top 15 ranked WR's. Staley and Nash were each rated #1 by different services.

kind of makes you wonder why UVA is so horrible in football, could be the academics, but more likely cocahing. for what it is (a state comsumed by basketball and w/ a small population), the state of KY produces a stud football player about once a year

I dont think Virginia recruits are underestimated in college football.

Vick brothers and our Pacman set up a good example for Virginia HS players

Yeah Uva recruits a lot based on academics. i think last year they had about 28 guys sign and only 16 got in.. this year all their recruits got in but they arnt as talented.
Al Groh is a defensive coach. I think that's why most of the hotshot recruits they get are on defense.. The offense was ranked in the 100s last year.

Take a look at the number of D-I players per capita that Oklahoma produces.

Since it is the off season and surely somebody has some time on their hands...

D-I players per capita would be one heck of a metric in answering this question... I wonder...

I'm in SC and I agree with the talent level in SC high schools. If Spurrier could just keep that talent in state it would help USC tremendously. Look at AJ Green. His video on youtube is crazy. He's one of the top 3 receivers of the '08 recruiting class. Where's he going? Georgia.

Tennesee has had great success raiding SC in the past, what will continue to help other schools dip into SC is their horrible facilities.

Vols have been very succesfull in Tulsa. Remember Brown and Nash in the nineties and most recently Big tall Bobbie now with the Saints.

I've watched them all play in High School. Tulsa Washington is a gold mine and someone here is a good conduit.

Don't forget Jenks and Union!
