What is the problem with A&M?

There is a clip from a pep rally that was totally disrespectful to App State. Don't know if the players were there...

I'm glad that clip is making that rounds because A&M does that cringeworthy stuff every single week. It is easily the strangest set of traditions/rituals in college football, if not all of sports. The "insults" at the Midnight Yell are just the tip of the iceberg.

What they were saying about App doesn't even make sense...they were making fun of them for being "backwoods" or something by a dude wearing overalls who goes to school in the bustling metropolis of College Station, TX.

TAM have been pretenders for eons.
Part of me has always wanted to sympathize A&M because they are a foil to the undeserved arrogance/pretentiousness of Texas, but they are so odd themselves that it makes it kind of difficult.

Plus they are also huge underachievers. Not just now but historically. They are seen as Texas's little brother, but it isn't for lack of money or resources. Texas gets lots of "They should be a better program historically than they have been" comments, which is true, but honestly A&M is a much bigger underachiever. If you knew nothing about CFB and walked onto A&M's campus, visited Kyle Field, etc., you'd think they had won 20 national championships and were the most successful CFB program of all time.

Just love that exciting team from the most beautiful blue ridge mountains of WNC.

A&M sent Barstool a Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) complaint and request to take down the video. The internet is not letting it go.

A DMCA complaint/request informs a company, web host, search engine, or internet service provider that they are hosting or linking to material that infringes on a copyright.

Barstool's reaction to the complaint:

Trust me brother, I am down here in the belly of the beast

When I moved to Dallas, I figured A&M would be a good "local" team to cheer for as I already knew I hated the Longhorns. I was dead wrong. The Aggie fans are just as annoying if not more so than the Texas fans. Entitled and whiney. They do one thing right and you would think they just cured cancer. Screw 'em and the horse they are engaged to.

Now, I pull for Oklahoma just to irritate the Aggies and Shorthorns that surround me.

I traveled all over Texas years ago. I found Aggies to be much more tolerant than Longhorns. I don’t know why opposing fans would go to Aggie yell practice and NOT expect their team to be ridiculed.

Texas may have started a new tradition thou. Put Bama band in upper deck. They might not show but if they do, you won’t be able to hear them. Texas avoided the classless “rammerjammer” cheer at the end of the game

It’s comical. Talk about unearned swagger. Read a while back that they were putting up billboards in other Gainesville, FL advertising TAM. The billboards read “Real Football, Real Tradition.”

I’m in my 20s. Florida last won a natty when I was in high school.
TAM last won a natty before my 81 year old father was born.

I’ve also always thought that if you didn’t know anything about college football and just one day started following it, your initial take would be that Texas A&M was the greatest program of all time. I remember when Tennessee played them in a bowl game in the early 2000s. I thought it was awesome that UT was playing them. My dad however was pissed off about it. And then informed me that Texas A&M wasn’t $***.

Yeah. I kind of sympathized with them when they were in the Big 12, but the longer they've stuck around in the SEC I find it harder to sympathize with them. I don't dislike them, and still prefer them to Texas, but the team I sympathize with now to spite Texas is more so Oklahoma now.

A&M has finished the season ranked 22 times since 1970. That isn't even 50% of the time. I get that every school has droughts; Tennessee is certainly currently in one, but Tennessee has only had one instance in the Poll Era where they finished outside the top 25 for at least 10 years (1975-84).

A&M has had streaks of 12 (1942-54), 15 (1958-73), and 10 (2010-10) years where they didn't even finish the season ranked. Those are very long streaks - not just one, but 3 of them, for a program with all of their bells and whistles.

Its not getting much better for A&M. Their CB live-streamed his reckless adventure through a parking garage. Knowing A&M, they will probably get this video taken down soon.

Yup. The Aggies didn't bother me that much until it was announced they were joining the SEC. The level of smack I heard in a week was just insane-Aggies will take over the SEC, we will win the division every year, blah blah blah. The worm turned for me then to be quite blunt.

By my math, they've had a decade haven't done squat in the grand scheme of things. Gave Jimbo an albatross of a contract. Spent how much NIL money on guys who will probably be gone in December.

Screw 'em. They're weirdos. Nothing wrong with being a bit weird, it keeps things interesting, but they go over the edge.

Would be hilarious to me if there was a deal with Texas to kick them out of the SEC within 5 years. Hate the Longhorns, but my distaste for the Aggies has pretty much reached ND proportions by this point.

I don't really seem to remember them saying they were going to take over the SEC (Texas fans are certainly saying that already, lol) but I do remember hearing a lot about how them entering the SEC was going to make them better than Texas.

I suppose that ended up being somewhat true - A&M has a higher overall winning % than Texas (.674 vs .560) and a marginally higher conference winning % (.568 vs .551) since they entered the SEC in 2012. You also have to consider that A&M plays in probably the toughest division in CFB, so their .568 mark in the SEC West is much better than Texas's .551 playing in the Big 12.

To be honest, basically everything A&M said about their entrance into the SEC became true. They do bring in a ton more money, they do recruit much better, and they have been better than Texas (I know that means a lot to them given their hatred of Texas, but it is not really all that much of a compliment). It hasn't led to them being a dominant force on the field though. They've played within their historical norms overall.

I was not doing the whole message board thing much in 2011 so I dunno what was floating around online from them at the time. I can tell you though that the local media was playing it up big time for them. Changes the game for the entire SEC, no way any of those stupid Southerners could compete with A&M, blah blah blah.

Dallas is weird. You get like 25% Texas fans, 25% Oklahoma fans, 25% Oklahoma, with the rest being split among the "local" schools. I'm in engineering so I'm surrounded by the A&M cult members all day.

While I'm always with the Vols and GT, I like to have a "local" team to cheer on wherever I live. Pulled for Texas Tech as I have family members on the faculty, but the Mike Leach fiasco irritated me. Now, I just root for Oklahoma.
