true but I'm not sure how it could ever not be. How do you pick without voting, appointments, etc?

True. I favor the appointment process over voting.

I guess the only way to non-politicize it would be to have it as some sort of independent body (a national bar assoication of some sort) where they are appointed (selected after a detailed process) to a particular court. Obviously start at the lower courts and work their way up. Wishfully thinking I suppose.

Which shows that he doesn't get it. He was thrown off the bench, not because of the monument, but because he refused to comply with another judge's order. Now, how can he possibly order anyone to do anything and expect it to be obeyed?

Since the election of Roy Moore as R contender is evidence the entire Alabama GOP is screwed up I offer Corinne (Go Gata) Brown and Alan Grayson as evidence that both the University of Florida and FL-Dems are screwed up.

disclaimer: I am not defending his defying this particular order...

If you truly believe that what you are ordered to do is wrong, then you have a moral obligation to not comply.

Blind submission to 'authority' is evil.

I'm fine with that, BUT, if your job responsibilities are clearly defined such that you are required to take orders from a chain of command, then it would be incumbent on you to resign your position if you can't fulfill your responsibilities.

I can agree with that. My problem is that most people won't do it. They will just knuckle under and go along to get along. They find some way to rationalize it.

Disagree in this case. He is an officer of the court. He is free to challenge a court order through the legal system but to simply defy a court order gets at the very heart of what he's sworn to uphold.

It is a clear conflict of interest for him to serve as Chief Justice yet selectively choose which court orders he must comply with.

Why did the 10 Commandmenst monument even go to court in the first place? That should be the real question I suppose.
