Woman Who Lied About Rape Sentenced To 1-3 Years - Gothamist

The woman whose false rape claims put an innocent man behind bars for nearly four years was sentenced to one to three years in prison on perjury charges. After pleading guilty to making up a story that she was gang raped in Upper Manhattan in 2005 to elicit sympathy from friends, Biurny Peguero Gonzalez was hit with jail time. "I question myself every day as to how I could have done this," she told the judge at her sentencing hearing.
Gonzalez's false accusations lead to a 20-year prison sentence for Bronx construction worker William McCaffrey. That conviction was overturned late last year after Gonzalez underwent a religious conversion and admitted she made up the story. DNA evidence revealed that a bite mark on her arm was made by a woman, not man—bolstering the prosecution's case that Gonzalez invented the story to make her female friends feel sorry for her, then backed up her phony claims using injuries she suffered in a fight with her pals. Gonzalez's lawyers argued that she was so drunk on the night of the incident that she started to believe her own lies.

note: underlines were hot links in the story not comments I'm emphasizing.

she should get at least 4 years and should have to give every dime she has to that poor bastard.

What's nuts is that his sentence was 20 and if the DNA evidence didn't come to light she may never have come forward.

I agree. Ironically, she may get to experience rape now, albeit by a butch lesbian in prison.

I wonder how they fashion their own "back massagers" in prison. I would assume it would involve lots of duct tape and some ball bearings

She should serve day for day the sentence she caused this man to receive (the time he actually spent in prison). After that she should have to repay this man every bit of money she caused him to spend to defend himself if any. If he had a public defender she should have to repay the state for his defense and then pay something to the man for restitution.

I'll have to look it up but a man served 14 years in prison for a rape he did not commit.

Stuff like this is saddening.....

Ya even if she served 20 years... oh boy I went to jail for lying in court. This guy will forever have the taint of being a rapist over his head. Ya it's been cleared but I'm willing to bet the damage while it wasn't cleared will have long lasting effects.

haha, yeah he paid his dues. I agree too with her serving at LEAST as long as he did. I would imagine real rape victim's blood boils when they have to see this.

If you read what the guy is saying - he suffered mightily not only from being in prison but from being in prison for rape. Probably only second to being in prison for being a child molester.
