18 recruits have now committed, what recruits would you go after and take now and why?

I like my fellow Vols' optimism, but I'm not ready to take the leap of faith on Dooley and Co. yet. What I've seen so far is sub-par recruiting, and we're expected to believe this staff will coach them up. I haven't seen much so far that would make me believe they're capable of that.

I hope to God I'm wrong, but I don't have a great feeling about this year's class or our coaches' ability to have them perform at a championship level.

Guess you need to cheer for Houston then with all of their big time recruits!

If you'd be so kind as to let us know how you find it to be subpar? Perhaps you could name one of our better recruits and then criticize some of the weaknesses you've seen from him on the field...or even from his tape.

....awkward silence....

Thats what I thought.

Here are some Id like for us to be able to snag in no particular order:

OT/DT: Antonio Richardson - #1 player in the state and could use him either at OT or DT

CB/WR/ATH: Sammy Watkins - This would be a huge get for us and could play as a freshman

DT: Gabe Wright - We need all the big bodies we can get for our depth on DL

TE: Jay Rome - We need that elite TE that will give Bray a security blanket over the middle

WR: Vincent Dallas - Could become a great slot guy that will give us an added presence in the return game

WR: DeAnthony Arnett - Losing Jones and Moore this year, we need to replace them

And a big name big time recruit to be the prize of this class...Not sure who that would be, but Im thinking somebody on the lines of what DaRick Rogers and Justin Hunter were to last years class...

Just my 2 cents worth...I think our recruiting class is shaping up quite nicely...We have added depth at key positions (OL and DL) although Id like to see another LB or 2 commit...But I still think this is a going to be a solid class...

For purposes of this answer, I am only putting the names of kids that have not committed elsewhere. I am not hypothesizing on withdrawing offers already accepted. Also, I am not intentionally listing kids who have publicly relegated the Vols off thier short lists although I may have done so inadvertently because I do not follow this stuff as closely as I once did. McEvoy is the only one that I sort of pulled out of thin air because I like his height, I assume he is a smart player and he has a solid list of offers.

Antonio Richardson OL
Gabriel Wright DT
Javedon Clowney or Ray Drew DE
Tobias Singleton WR
Sammy Watkins WR
Lateek Townsend LB
Tanner McEvoy ATH

Isaiah Crowell. If we get him and do not take another player all year I would be perfectly happy. His tape is ridiculous

Good post, I also feel like we are going to get a stud that comes out of nowhere like Rogers and Hunter did!

Thats what I thought.

Specifically what I mean is, in terms of the caliber of players we were recruiting through the mid nineties and early 00's, the classes of the last few years, specifically this one, do not measure up. I don't think this is a stretch, and most here would agree.

What causes my concern is what appears to be a serious lack of focus and understanding of game management by our coaching staff during the last several weeks, along with a breakdown of fundamental football techniques. Obscenely poor tackling against UAB, lousy clock management versus LSU and Georgia (to end the half), among other things, are what stick out in my mind.

I'm not here to rag on the team, and I know Houston isn't a huge draw for recruits for the guy who wanted to throw that barb, but our recruiting this year is far below what got us to the level we used to play at. Couple that with what, to me, seems like poor coaching so far, and it spells trouble.

This is just my take, and you guys can get all worked up about it and start being snide and tossing out insults. It's just an honest expression of concern from a huge Volunteer fan.

No one mentioned Clear, the kid from Memphis. Isn't he a good prospect. I thought he was like Richardson in that he could contribute a multiple positions.

You have to use your imagination a little to decide where you want to use him. Certainly, he is a very good prospect.

Gabe Wright, Sammy Watkins, Kevin Grooms, Jay Rome, Avery Walls, Ray Drew, and any JUCO DT we're in on.

I think we should keep Walls in the running. I added Drew because I don't think we should ever give up on a guy that good. He knows CCS, so there is always a chance. All are takes.

Richardson, Clear, Wright, Rome, Arnett, Mickey Johnson, Couch, Lamar Dawson, Grooms/Buie, and a Juco center. If we were to land all these guys it would be awesome. I get pumped just at the thought of it happening
