Tennessee is going into the meat of SEC play. It's time to look at the rotation. This is my personal rotation.

PG- Thompson 25/Barton 15

Thompson earned his starting spot tonight. You lose a little on defense (not as much quickness, but more length), but his ability to break down a trap and get in the paint with his passing ability is something Tennessee has not had since Bobby Maze was on The Hill. Barton can be a nice third guard with his outside shooting and defense and still contribute.

SG- McRae 33/Barton 7

McRae is easily the starting two guard and will continue to get playing time. I want Barton to get a little bit of time at two guard. He can really shoot off the catch and has enough length to guard opposing two's. Plus you get a little more ball handling there.

SF- Richardson 30/Moore 10

Josh is having a nice year, but he has to improve on the road. Moore is having a great run as the sixth man and his energy is palpable. He should continue to get run and he is continuing to improve. He's a menace on defense.

PF- Maymon 20/ Moore 15/Reese 5

Maymon is playing 27 minutes a night. That's pretty impressive considering his knees. I love Moore as an athletic four who can help break the trap. Reese is still rebounding well, but his offense is very limited. I'm fine with Davis getting 5 minutes also

C- Stokes 30/Maymon 7/Pops 3

Nothing new here. I don't mind Pops getting a couple spot minutes to give Maymon an extra rest in the first half and if Stokes gets a first foul early (like against Ole Miss and LSU).

So total breakdown is:

McRae- 33
Richardson- 30
Stokes- 30
Maymon- 30
Thompson- 25
Moore- 25
Barton- 22
Reese- 5
Pops- 3

Nine man rotation, with seven players getting the bulk of the minutes. If you wanna give Edwards 5 minutes at the 3 and give Moore some more minutes at the 4, that's good too.

Mine is very similar to yours and pretty close to where I've been all year.

PG- DT 25/Barton 15
It's time

SG- Jordy 30/Barton 7/ Josh 3

SF- Josh 27/Moore 10/ Jordy 3

PF- Maymon 19/Moore 16/Reese 5
Finally Armani is getting the PT he should have been all year. Dude just plays

C- Stokes 30/Maymon 7/ Pops 3

DT-25
Barton-22
Jordy-33
Josh-30
Moore-26
Reese-5
Maymon-26
Stokes-30
Pops-3

Basically a 7 man rotation, and I feel that's our best 7. Minutes can rise for Reese depending on how he's playing, and I appreciate the little stretch he had, but Moore just does more things needed to win. Reese is rebounding well but that's not a need for us really.

Edit: To explain my Josh 3 at SG and Jordy 3 at SF.
DT/Josh/Armani together and DT/Barton/Jordy together. Just before someone says why are they switching positions for 3 minutes. Lol

Good posts ZJC and BD20. I can only add that I like the shorter bench when they play uptempo, which they should try to do every game, because they stay in the flow better. I look at Reese and Edwards as interchangeable depending on who is playing better at the time and as y'all said if there is a greater need for rebounding. Richardson is the X factor on O and Moore is the X factor on D. When they get their opportunities and get in the flow it changes the whole dynamic of the team and reduces the pressure on Jordy, Jarnell and Jerome. This team seems to always play well when Richardson gets some early offense. It seems that it gives Jordy time to observe what the opponent is doing to stop him and counter it because they have to adjust to what Richardson is doing. Thompson is beginning to step up into the role we all hoped he could do.

Sure is looking like Davis should have taken that red shirt. He's got talent, just needs more mass.

Just to add to something on Thompson ZJC, while he may lack a little in defensive quickness, he's good for a couple steals a game. If we are looking to play that uptempo style, his 2-3 steals a game over Barton are an added bonus.

I like your post. Personally, I like Edwards in you Maymon/Moore/Reece rotation. Moore not so big and Reece seems to get solid rebounds and can hit the ocassional three. Edwards has the size to be more of a 4 and he can get a basket. Moore has improved his defense and can be a factor in the floor burn category and he had some big blocks last night! Be curious to see how they translate their game on the road at Bama? I see a lot of positives with this team. I just hope the stink bomb down in Florida was the awakening! Go Big Orange!

I would agree but we needed him early because Q and Reese were pouting about not getting playing time and Davis was beating them for minutes in practice.

My rotation would simply be to leave the hot man in. And if a guy makes a play (like Moore did with the block last night) then for Pete's sake leave him in there too.

Off Soapbox.

Nice breakdown. Last night, I think we saw why Davis hasn't seen any action in a long time. He's got a ton of potential, but he's just not quite ready. Barton needs to be at the 2 any time we rest Jordy, with Thompson running the point. Also, anytime we get pressed, I'd like to see the small-ball team: Thompson, Barton, McRae, Richardson, Stokes or Maymon (whomever is fresher - Maymon has a better handle, IMO.)
