OK everyone, I am starting this thread, so we can vent our frustrations at sports channels televising sports that just do not belong. Of course, there are going to be varying opinions, but this is VolNation. We live for arguing this stuff.
I will get this started with 3 things we see at sporting events and/or on sports networks that I feel need to go away.
The first two are from the Olympics. The final is one ESPN and now FoxSports1 are showing.
1)Synchronized Swimming. I have always been a fan of the Olympics. World class athletes coming together to compete. The games fostering international friendship, and creating excitement every four years, or very two if you count the winter games. For the life of me, this event is just not what I call an Olympic type event. It is just one of those events that just has my mouth hanging open as I think WTF is this nonsense? I would just find a pool cleaning competition more entertaining. It is about as appropriate as a ballet competition would be at the Olympics. This event belongs in the places I suggest in the following:
2)Rhythmic Gymnastics. This is a fairly new event that I saw for the first time during the London Games. It may have started at Beijing, but I could be wrong. It occurs after the regular gymnastic events have concluded. Basically, a group of very pretty young ladies (it's only redeeming point) prance their beautiful selves onto the floor and throw balls, streamers and other children's toys in a mainly artistic event. Personally, it took me awhile to get accustomed to watching regular gymnastics, but those little ladies and gentlemen are some of the most disciplined and hardest working athletes in the games. To follow that competition with rhythmic gymnastics is almost insulting. This belongs in a circus. If they want a tryout for Ringling Brother's or a Los Vegas show, they just need to call them direct.
3) Poker. For some reason, networks that we expect to provide us with sports entertainment decide a gambling competition is appropriate content. Poker is not a sport, it is a vice to some, and a hobby to others. If they want to show that on television, it should be on the Learning Channel. That way it can be used to replace, "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo." (How is THAT learning?) Or they could start, "The Hobby Channel" and show it between fishing tournaments.
OK, let the comments commence. I just feel that since we are all now paying a monthly bill for our television, we should be able to get better content. So, bring on the opinions.
