What was post game confrontation between Vitello & Arky Coach?

Apparently had something to do with Arkansas trying to poach one (or maybe multiple) or our commitments

Low class on Van Horn’s part if true

DVH did mention recruiting when asked in his postgame presser but didn't go into detail (understandably so).

If what you described turns out to be true, no wonder CV was pissed.

Recruiting makes sense. It's basically post season now. A lot on the line for seeding and host sites, etc. Getting chippy is to be expected. Baseball recruiting tougher than it might seem. The very best prospects are signing pro contracts out of high school most of the time and these guys are committing after their sophomore year in many cases.

Great series with the 3 one run games magnifies everything. The Vols didn't hurt themselves with any recruits this weekend I don't imagine.

You could read DVH's lips in a few parts of the clip.

He says "What about that guy you stole from me when you left?"

And then a few moments later, when walking off, he says "Well our boys just beat your ass, how about that, big fella?"

Definitely about recruiting.

Wow. 😳 I never thought I'd see DVH that fiery.

Recruiting must be intense!

There are many unwritten rules in baseball recruiting and most live by it. Once someone has committed there is no conversation as long as they are committed. If they de-commit then free game. I don't know any big time programs that break that rule. There is no penalty because it is just a gentleman's agreement but it is pretty strong. When both younger sons were being recruited, we had P5 schools say we are interested if you ever decide to de-commit but we will not touch you as long as you are committed. Never thought about waivering from UT. They were at games but never talked to sons.
Coach V did not say he started it he just said I said something that should have been said at a different time so to me he said I don't have a problem with what I said just may not have been the right place and time. But he was mad and when you are mad you don't always control your words. I love that he was protecting his program and then his players.

I feel like CTV is on the brink of building a lasting-dominant program. I love his attitude and his players are definitely feeding off of it. I just hope that we are able to hang on to him a upgrade the facilities. The recruits will start crawling to Knoxville to play for him

Thanks for your sharing insights about baseball recruiting. I also love that CV was protecting his program and players. He certainly has passion and his players know that he has their backs.

As tuned in and focused as CTV is, it wouldn't surprise me if everything went just the way he wanted it to. He's pretty fast on his feet. ;)

He used to be a lot more intense back in the day but has mellowed out as he's gotten older.

Not sure if it's true but I think I read somewhere that Arkansas tried to come after Jackson Greer after he had committed to Tennessee, which makes sense since we added two transfer catchers before Opitz didn't get drafted because we assumed he wouldn't be back, then when he came back those transfers backed out. Vitello probably didn't appreciate that and there was a lot of jawing between Greer and the Arkansas dugout it seemed like. And in response Van Horn brought up that Vitello encouraged Alerick Soularie, who was signed with Arkansas, to go to JUCO so that way he could get out of his LOI with Arkansas and go to Tennessee instead when he was hired away because Vitello recruited him.

At least that's the cliff notes of what it seemed like happened from reading about it different places. Seems like a heat of the moment thing and I'm not sure it means they don't like each other but there are some opposing SEC coaches who don't like DVH very much.

I would run through a damn brick wall for our Italian Stallion and I'm not even on the team! I haven't seen a coach on our campus with this fire in him and this energy in YEARS. I think TV wants to be here. We gave him his first chance. He's in the SEC. You can EASILY recruit here. The only question is if we're willing to heavily renovate LNS. I sure hope we do it. It's long overdue regardless of the coach. TV doesn't want just more money for himself. He wants to build a better baseball experience for the fans.

I'm pretty much O-U-T on football, so I couldn't care less about that dumpster fire. Devote resources to the programs that have earned it and give UT fans, the most passionate fanbase in the SEC, something, SOMETHING to be proud of.

Honestly I think people are making a bit too much out of it. Coaches do this stuff all the time in various sports and it doesn't mean they hate each other. Same with players, for that matter. I especially wouldn't think they hate each other given Vitello coached under Van Horn for several years.
