TRAE GOLDEN can flat out play! which really says two things. A. we have a young point guard with scoring ability and a hunger to win that I think is going to take the leadership role on this squad. B. it means that Coach Martin can develop his players. one thing that always bothered me with Pearl was, how could you get a great player like Scotty Hopson and never shake him of his stupid high school personality and turn him into a college level player mentally and physically. from what i saw last night, Golden went from a non factor to a leader. credit Coach and Golden on that.

Maymon is another player who I think really woke up in the off season cause he played very well last night. not perfect, our post play on offense and defense is very weak but you can tell that Maymon is making progress shooting, taking it in, and grabbing boards.

McRae looked good. He brings the intensity to the court that we need. His shots looked good. I think he is going to be a J.P. Prince. That's just who he reminds me of.

Tatum: The piece to our puzzle of success is right here, just as it has been his whole career. If Cam Tatum plays good and makes shots, I think we ARE a force is this league. If he gets hot, then you might as well forget about it. I really think it is just a confidence thing. You can tell as soon as he releases if the ball is going in because his body language tells you.

Kenny Hall: disappointment. kid has just never developed phiscally. right towards the end he made some good plays where you could tell that he had confidence in what he was doing, but he is still very week on the glass and is just not giving us that presence that a 6'9'', 222 pound guy should give you. We have to fix this.

Coach Martin: there were a few time where I thought maybe we should have called time because we were playing very sloppy and Coach just let them play and work it out, which is good in these easy games where the team can't make you pay if you're up by 20, but it won't fly against Duke. I'm interested in seeing how he prepares them for that match up. I wasn't sure by watching his interviews if he was going to bring intensity to the side lines but I think he gets his message to his guys and that is all that matters.

Off the Bench: clearly this is going to be our biggest problem. maybe a few points from McBee and Woolridge(who has really improved) but man we looked very small and ineffective off the bench. Washpun doesn't even look big enough to play high school ball, and dropping from Golden to him may really hurt us in league play.

Overall: we have talent and discipline. and i think that is a recipe for success. I'm excited about this season. Coach Martin was a great hire!!! GBO

Pearl did a good job of developing CJ Watson, Chris Lofton, Wayne Chism, and Brian Williams. Hopson was a lost cause from the get go because he had no desire to learn. So far, Tatum seems about as inconsistent under Martin as he was under Pearl, but the Vols do well when he's on his game.

Wayne Chism didn't really improve till Ty Smith got kicked off the team. Just sayin.
