If you really care about our country and what we leave our children the time to act is now.

Both parties have failed miserably and the politicians we have are blinded by the power and prestige they wield. They have allowed our system to come to the brink of collapse. I fear the results whether we get this bailout or not! If we get it we don't address the real problems at the core. If we don't this country could collapse and everything the great men of past generations (like my grandfather)shed blood for would have been for nothing.

I was once so jaded by our politics I wanted to blow the whole thing up and start over, as I got older I came to realize it was the best system we available and learned to love it. I am afraid because i feel the disgust rising in me again.

Every generation in America has the responsibility to keep the principles this country was founded on alive and well, and where possible to leave the world a better place than we found it...........We are failing our children and the next generation miserably!

You may ask "what can we do?", for starts we can try make our elected officials responsible for their actions. At the very least we should hold their feet to the fire and live or die by their actions. If anyone else has ideas on the matter I would live to hear them.

Is he not a part of our government? Any official who tolerates those around them guilty of the actions that bring us where we are today is just as guilty in my book.

If you truly despise the "politics as usual" crowd we have in office now that politician should speak out at every turn against them and name names, tell the people what they are up to!

If the idiots politicizing this economic crisis, from either party, don't realize that the vast, vast majority of our international power lies in our financial system and economic might don't figure that out, they deserve the decline that they're inducing.

He is, I would prefer that we fire every elected official down to community organizer....

A very good idea IMO. Part of the problem is they become part of the elite and amass wealth and power. Most of these people run for office to make a difference, somewhere along the way they become corrupted by the power.

Term limits would be a thing of beauty.... if would also be nice if congress had real jobs.

It bothers me that no one saw this coming. It bothers me more that the conditions that existed to allow all this mess to come to pass went unchecked. It bothers me even more to think, what other disaster have we got to deal with tomorrow or next year because of greed, selfishness, apathy, or malice because this nation has become rotton from the inside out with men who put personal gain over anything, nothing is sacred. The center does not hold.

Is this a possible negative consequence of term limits?

Some Congressional leaders are privy to national security information that must remain secret (at least for the near term). Having long-standing Congressional members reduces the risk of this information leaking out. More turn over in these positions will mean that vital information is in the hands of more people and people who no longer have the incentive to keep it secret since they are out of office?

Just a thought.

Technically the incentive should be there no matter what, given they could face prison time...and in some extreme cases...even death for treason if they disclose any of this information.

It's a security issue, but there are literally millions of Americans working, and used to work, in the defense and intelligence industries. When granted a security clearance you swear to keep this information private for life, even if it is eventually declassified. I see the point, but given the number of Americans that currently have a clearance or have had a clearance, this seems like a small number we are dealing with.

To me, the bigger issue would be granting security clearances to this high turnover job (if we had term limits). The investigative process into individuals background can sometimes take years to complete, and even then, it isn't a guarantee the government would grant the clearance. I guess they could fast track the investigation for members that have the legitimate need-to-know, but even that doesn't guarantee the process will be that much faster, or even result in a granted clearance.
