Yeah. Probably Top 5...

We're not blowing them up out IF WE win.
Tthey're the defending National Champions...

Also have a huge following.

1 loss Bama ot UGA get picked over 12-0 TCU.

Don't touch this thread please, mods, it is healthy therapy for BVS patients!

LOL, it's okay to talk confidently about our team. Fans do it all the time. It's kind of part of being, you know, fanatical. :)

To the OP: Yep, I think the Dawgs would still be in the top 5. I think we'd bounce into the #1 spot and UGa would fall to 3, 4, or 5:

-- 3 if it was a really close game and UGa looked really good in spite of losing
-- 4 if it looked even the tiniest smidge more one-sided than the Vols-Tide game
-- 5 if we wreck them

They are, after all, the defending national champ. Us having beaten Bama already makes it a bit more "okay" for them to lose to us without paying a huge price.

I do think if we beat them, the next week's poll would look like:

1 - Vols
2 - Ohio St
3 - Michigan
4 / 5 - Bama / UGa

-OR-

1 - Vols
2 - Ohio St
3 / 4 - Bama / UGa
5 - Michigan

But man, there are some big assumptions in that:

-- assumes Bama doesn't lose to Miss State or LSU in between
-- assumes Penn State doesn't upset Ohio State
-- assumes Michigan State doesn't find a way to embarrass the Wolverines
-- assumes Clemson doesn't beat #14 Syracuse by 100, then Notre Dame by 200, and launch themselves back into the conversation / Top 5
-- assumes we've already handled Kentucky easily (which I think is the safest of these five assumptions)

Go Vols!

An undefeated Big 12 Champion is getting into the playoffs. If an SEC team or multiple SEC teams end with one loss and no conference championship then they will only get in behind undefeated conference champions.

Still in the top 5?

I like the way you're thinking, and why not?

The Vols started this season unranked with the expectation meter set to low, and it's a pure delight to watch this amazing team come out of nowhere to overachieve each week. Why not think about winning it all? It's fun and there's no harm in it since we'll very likely get a 9 or 10 win season. Dream on, dreamers.

Is 1985 Auburn the last time we beat the #1 team? When was the last time we beat #1 on the road?

Even though the game happens after OSU plays Michigan so one of them will have an L by the end of things also. even if we beat UGA they drop to 4 or 5 at most and that's as far as they should drop. Number 1 losing to number 3 is not like they lost to app state or something. Also if Bama beats Ole miss they likely are back in top 4.

This late in the season WHO your W's and L's came from matters a lot more.

How would you compare this Tennessee team to the incredible Tennessee teams of the 90’s?

Don't care about the dawgs, but the Vols will still be 3rd. You cannot overlook the northern bias. Example...OSU is claiming they have a 23-14 record against the SEC. If you look into it you find they beat Missouri 10 times (while they were still in the big 12), beat Kentucky and Vandy 6 times, still count beating Arkansas even though they had to vacate the victory, 4 victories vs A&M but I think 3 were pre SEC so they don't count. The adjusted record is 4 - 14 vs Bama, Georgia, Tennessee, Auburn, Florida, and USCe. But we all know that they are the best just because, you know, OSU.

No, no, no. Georgia is much better than Bama. No one will score more than 34 against them.

UGA secondary is much better than Bama. Their defense will hold us down to 28-32. I just hope Bennett is having a bad day when we play them. UT 31 UGA 28.

We taking about the same UGA secondary that looked very suspect against Kent State and Mizzou? I promise you Tennessee puts more than 34. I really don't think a lot of people have a real grasp on how good our offense really is. Kent State had nearly 200 yards passing on 14 completions. Can you imagine how many yards Hooker could have on 14 completions?

If you check the schedules, I think you'll find that we play UGa in early November, and Ohio State - Michigan isn't until the end of November.

I've been wrong before, though.

Go Vols!

If our pass rush can get to Jayden Daniel’s who is more athletic than Bennett I think we can get to him. Bennett is more athletic than most think but not like Jayden.
