I havn't had time to review who all we signed but am interested in what others think about this class in general.

IMO I'd grade our class as a B. Highlight of course being the WR's we picked up.

If you take all things into account (the "snakes" from the previous coaching staff bailing on us 3 weeks before NSD, decommits because of this bailing, the frantic search for a new HC, and not having a complete coaching staff in place on NSD(including DC and DL coach)), then I believe you have to give this class an A+. When the snakes left, it looked as if we were doomed to sign a class that would be out of the top 15, maybe even not in the top 20. The only reason it would have been that high is because of those who had already enrolled (we had 3 top 150s already enrolled for the spring). If all of this had not have happened and we would have signed the same class, then I think a B or so would be accurate. We definitely fulfilled our need on the OL, however, we will be hurting at DL, as far as depth is concerned. Hats off and kudos to the young men, who had already enrolled, for staying with the program. I believe that because of them and the great efforts by L. Thompson and J. Chaney, we were able to save this class. Vol fans should be proud of our current staff. We will be MUCH BETTER off in the future with them versus the snakes that left.

+1. I don't even want to think about how things would have turned out had we not had those guys enroll early.

I agree and give this class a B. I think maybe two more O-Lineman and three more DT would have helped fill our needs. I am pleased with what the coaches did with the amount of time they had. I know we had the 9th ranked class and it feels good to be in the top 10 some what consistently again but that ranking means nothing if your not feeling your needs. This staff just did not have enough time to go after any monster DT's. Which we need pretty badly. Overall it was pretty solid and now the most important step is getting as many in as possible.

Some VERY talented skill players, lacking heavily in beef. I'd break it down like this.

Overall talent grade: B+
Addressing needs grade: C-
Under the Circumstances: B+

Overall: B

I'd love to say hooray at a top ten class when the odds were stacked against us, but the lack of lineman in this class HURTS.

under the circumstances = A

he pulled the only highly rated o lineman that we had a realistic shot at, stone. They lost copeland, but he's a louisiana guy and lsu brought him in and the coached spent the whole weekend working on him, I can't fault cdd for that.

Pulled loften, hunter, rodgers

Under the Circumstances: B+

if we hadn't lost Copeland, everyone on here would be giving this class an A, but without Copeland this class is B or B+ in my opinion

A for what Dooley did to hold the class together.

B- for the class.

our 3 biggest needs were DT, OL, and LB. the OL haul was solid. the other 2 were not. we have to hope 1 of the 3 LBs will produce at some point. only signing 1 DT was a massive failure.

In your opinion, should we have reached and offered a scholly to a guy who wouldn't normally deserve one when it was looking bad the weekend before NSD, or should we wait until next year and hope for depth with some walk-ons, like it appears CDD will do?

I think they will use ends at tackle before they look at walk ons. I guess they could try out some guys, but not very likely they get anyone useful.

On paper this class has the potential to be epic from a WR standpoint. Getting all those guys touches is going to be difficult.

When your offense keeps going three and out because you have no line, yep.

Long on speed...short on big uglies. Vols need both. I don't expect a top ten class next year due to the number of lineman we should sign on both sides of the ball.

The big question: How many of these guys are still standing in four years? If we keep 75% of the class it should pay dividends.

It's too hard to second guess. I think he may have did something different if he woulda knew in advance Copeland was gonna screw us like he did.

Having bodies at DT isn't really the problem. We have 6 guys: Hughes, Walls, Brown, Jeffery, Nelson, and Sykes. Walk-on's and offering guys who Dooley didn't believe could play was/is not going to help the problem.

Can't say it any better...Copeland really hurt...

One position of need that gets overlooked is cb...CDD did bring in Clark which helped out a lot on paper... Rogan leaving made cb a priority for this class and under the circumstances CDD did the best he could do...

I agree with this. Copeland sucked hard, and it prolly happened too late to fix.

Thanks for all the replies, I know this must have been discussed quite a bit on and after signing day.

IMO Dooley did a great job landing a class rated in the top ten with so little time to get things together.

I'm not a big Hamilton fan but I'll have to cut him some slack now since I'm thinking he stepped up to the plate and hit one out of the park with this coaching hire.

I'm also very happy with the Boise St DC hire by Dooley.

Count me in as a solid Dooley fan.

Here is my take on this class.

Offense first.

I'm thrilled with the number one kicker.

Good that we signed 3 QBs we needed the debth, the JC should give us some slack at backup this year and the two freshmen look good, neat we pulled a Vandy commit, maybe he'll be the next Cutler down the road and the tall guy from California looks to be the prototypical modern pro style QB.

I don't share concerns about the OL, we signed four, we may not be as deep as we would like this year but if we sign another solid OL class in 2011 then maybe we can revive the TVA moniker we had back in the mid eighties.

Great group of WRs, maybe one will end up as a DB?

I like that we signed a FB and the JC TE can't hurt us although I would liked to have had a freshman TE, I'm a big fan of throwing to the TE about 5 or 6 times a game.

We didn't particularly need RBs so the one if fine with me and maybe he might end up at OLB?

The defensive side of the ball doesn't look quite as rosy.

Three DEs,...... good.

The JC DT should help this year but we need to sign some good DTs next year and they say this is the hardest position to fill at the college level.

The numbers don't look so bad with 2 LBs and 4 DBs signed, let's hope these guys turn out to be better than their recruiting services rankings indicate coming out of HS.

Anyway, I think we have a slim to decent shot at winning the SECE this year and if that happens then who knows how far we can go?

Now my biggest problem is finding things to keep me occupied until Septermber when live begins anew. :)

Winning the east this year is delusional. Our lines are not very good and thin and one or two injuries from being epically aweful.

We will be bad this year, but 2011 should be markedly better and no reason we can't compete with the best in 2012.

If David and Goliath were going to meet in battle again today, the smart money would still be on Goliath.

Was it delusional that we would have beaten the NCAA Champion last year??

We didn't but we came very close.

Florida won't be as good without Tebow and Alabama will have a difficult time running the table again.

I understand and appreciate that talent and debth at OL and DL are quite important but barring a rash of injuries we might just be good enough to get the job done. :)

I have to respectfully disagree with some of these posts. I know we are thin in some areas and that we lost a few very talented players...but to rate a top 10 class a B is a little greedy (especially after what transpired 2.5 weeks before NSD). I think, compared to the rest of the nation,...It's an A!

Everyone is talking about the WR's but I'm just as excited about these things....

1.) We landed the #1 rated kicker in the nation. That filled a HUUUUGE need!!

2.) We landed one highly rated QB and 1 solid QB. Another huge need filled!

3.) We landed another fantastic RB prospect in Marcques Dixon to add to our already ridiculous stable of RB's.

4.) We added much needed depth to the TE position in signing Mychal Rivera!

5.) I'm VERY excited about the DE and LB prospects we signed in Smith, Miller, Crump, Jackson, and Propst.

6.) I'm also excited about the OL prospects that we signed in James, Fulton, Pair, and Stone.
