What's this movie?

Set in the 70's or early 80's. It's a trucking movie. All that I remember is that he picks up a girl (maybe a hitch hiker) and he's hauling cattle. At one point he has to use a hot shot stick and another part she tries to drive the truck and tears up the transmission
