What in hell? Tonight it's being reported that for the fourth time in six months a US Navy ship, a destroyer, has collided with another ship. This time it was in the Straights of Mallaca near Singapore. All the other mishaps, except one I think, were also in the Eastern Pacific. Ten sailors are missing tonight, seven were killed a month ago near Japan and last week one sailor was lost.....presumed fell overboard....all in the Pacific. I don't know about loss of life in the other collisions.

Something is Badly wrong.

Now this kind of thing does NOT "happen all the time" as some might suppose. Having spent a career in the military myself, I can report to you that the Navy is very particular about its' ships. And they cop a really bad attitude about it anytime somebody runs into something (like another ship, a reef, or sandbar) with one of them.

After this many incidents in so short a period of time the problem is obvious. And the problem is not a lack of funding. Rather, there are serious training deficiencies in the Navy, especially in the Pacific. Sound, challenging, training particularly in shipkeeping, does not cost money; it saves money and lives.

Expect heads to roll, lots of them....soon, and they should.

A symptom of turning the military into a social experiment on diversity. Too much time is being spent on the nebulous concept of "global citizenship " at the expense of real training.

So you're blaming minorities? We need more white men in the Navy? Should they only be allowed a certain hair color too? Eyes?

Total straw man comment; MG said nothing of the sort.

When I was in (mid to late 90's) I can recall only one run-aground and zero collisions. Something certainly seems amiss. Turning the military into a social experiment can not have helped preparedness.

Amazing how you just assume that this was a racially motivated comment. Are you trying to stir a racial debate where none exists or are you just that stupid?

Cool it with the personal insults. The word diversity could cause confusion as to what exactly MG meant

He said diversity experiment. The word diversity implies hes referring to those of different race.

He's saying that they're now letting women drive the boats and this is what happens

It's hard to text, talk, put on makeup, and drive at the same time!

For reference, see Kingston Pike between West Town & Bearden.

What would forced diversity mean if not minorities, either racially or sexual orientation? I suppose gender as well.

Several people, to include (Ret) Gen Mattis, the POTUS and juts lots of others in general, feel that all the required training to meet the demands of allowing transgender and all the training and requirements to fulfill obligations for the LGBTQ community have taken their toll on the service men and women. Taking away from training time, adding additional stress and creating an awkward environment in a position where social experiments need not exist.

No, I'm not.

Anything that takes away from training is a needless distraction. I don't care about skin color, gender identity, LGBTQ issues. If you serve, you have a job to do. Part of that job is to treat others with respect. If you can't do that, get out or be forced out.

Anybody who is currently serving can tell you what a joke diversity training is.

It's immensely time consuming, confusing and an all around a mess. Every training session (of which there are many) creates more questions than answers. The sole purpose of the job is to be an elite, unstoppable fighting force. Kind of difficult to accomplish that with all the different pieces that keep us from OTJ training. To be fair, there are A LOT of other pieces of "mandatory" compliance training that is also preventing us from actual OTJ training other than just training for how to handle these diversity issues.

I don't know if true or not, but I saw on some news show this morning that the navy decided a number of years ago to do away with a year long ship driving 101 school and send newly commissioned straight to ships for on the job training instead.
If true, it sounds like it has some merit for these incidents.
