What do you guys use? I've had Norton for awhile but they annoy the crap out of me now. They renew for a ridiculously high price so I've always kept auto renew turned off and when it expires they always offer to renew for less than half. However, you can no longer turn auto renew on or off in your account settings. If you try it redirects you to another page. You either have to chat or call customer service. That's one of the reasons I'll never have a sub to one of these pay Vol sites. If you can sign up online you should be able to cancel online without having to listen to a sales pitch on why you should stay.

I have a Mac. Heard that most people don’t need to have any additional software and certainly not the paid version of malware bytes. What kind of stuff would I expect it to clean off my computer?

I use something called "Bitdefender". Have been for a couple of years now ..... with no problems.
I haven't had a virus or any kind of PC problems for years using their protection program. I think they have like 3 levels you can choose to go with. I've been just w/a basic protection program......some good stuff.

Have you ever thought about using/ or looking into PCmatic? I signed up years ago with U S Tech Support. I have them clean my system about every month or two...... they do so by a computer remote hook-up. You have to pay for that service yearly .... it's not a one time deal. They can clean your computer & get rid of all types of nasty computer stuff. They can fine tune your system to be running to the max.

I use the free version and just do manual scans from time to time. I’ve never had malwarebytes find anything on my Mac or PC though.

I’ve never used virus protection on my Mac and I’ve never had an issue. Then again, I’ve never had windows defender catch anything on my PC either. But I don’t engage in “high risk” activities online suck as torrents, pirated software, etc.

Knock on wood. :)

Way back in the day I used to use Norton but learned how much resources it was eating up and slowing down my computer. It was like night and day after I uninstalled it.

Windows Defender and Malwarebytes.

I also use both of these. I do pay for Malwarebytes premium. I like it's real time scanning while surfing the internet. It blocks a website for me on average maybe 4 times a month. Here is a screenshot of recently blocked sites for example.

I installed Kaspersky on my new computers about 4 years ago... but it was only a three year deal, so I am in need of upgrading to something else soon.

Norton is like paying for a computer virus to keep out other viruses. I’m sure they’re copying all your info and storing it somewhere.
