Mine is :run: . Obviously more than one reason; there's two, uh er three. Back in the day, late December 1966; Tennessee was getting ready to play Syracuse in the Gator Bowl and the NFL was deep into playoffs for the first super bowl. I was earning some X-mas bucks cleaning my cousin's shop in my hometown on a Saturday morning. We were talkin' ball and then a very well endowed sweetheart of another cousin (small town jokes can start now) walked by. His comment was, "It's like watchin' two bear cubs in a tater sack fightin' over a pot o' honey." ... Which indeed it was.

Can't see bears in a tater sack now without thinking about that winter, the Vols beating Syracuse, and Super Bowl I.

Ain't it strange?

So it's a regular occurrence to see bears in a tater sack? :ermm:

 and :hi:

Popcorn because slow-moving (or fast-moving) forum train wrecks are entertaining to watch, and hi because it's a good way to acknowledge another member or back down when things get touchy.

Yup. An if I let my mind drift, it never ceases to amaze me how it brings Volunteer football bowl appearances, ghosts of girlfriends past, the Super Bowl, playing midget league football (my team was the Packers, so guess who I was for in the Super Bowl).

I went an looked it up. Prior 1966 the Vols had played in only 12 bowls dating all the way back to the 1938 season Orange Bowl. The 1966 Gator Bowl was Doug Dickey's 2nd of 5 bowl appearances. Prior to his first, the '65 Gator Bowl, it had been 7 years since Tennessee had played in a bowl, the '57 Gator Bowl under Bowden Wyatt against Texas A&M. Since then Tennessee has been to 37 bowls for a total of 49 appearances.

Since those 7 years between Wyatt's '57 Gator Bowl and Dickey's '65 Bluebonnet Bowl, the longest drought for Tennessee was 4 years combined under Bill Battle and Johnny Majors: '75 thru '78. Phil Fulmer leads with 15 bowls.
