...that Trevor Hoffman is done?

They shouldn't be playing "Hell's Bells" when he comes in anymore; they should be playing "It's a Small World (After All)." He was throwing batting practice tonight.

The Stros finally found someone they could hit off of and Trevor was shelled about as bad as he's ever been. I agree with you. He might need to hang it up.

Good first win for the Stros though. It took them long enough.:banghead2:

The last time Hoffman looked that bad was, oh, in the one-game playoff against the Rockies last year, when he blew a two-run lead that would have put the Padres in the playoffs. And two days before that, when he blew another division-winning save. Last night he cost Greg Maddux win #348. He's toast.

Sad to say that he's done, nostalgia from management by keeping him around in the closer's role may be well intentioned, but it doesn't do either side justice.

Trevor should ride off into the sunset, hand the ball to Heath Bell, and fade away with some dignity.

The Padres brought Hoffman into a tie game in the 9th inning today and he promptly served up the losing run. He's got a 12.27 ERA thus far. I can only hope that the Padres are still handing him the ball in crucial situations when the Braves get to face him.

Maddux may never win 350 as long as Hoffman is still "closing" games. 7 IP, 4H, 0R, 5K, 0BB. No decision thanks to another Hoffman gopher ball in the 9th.

Hoffman's ERA is now 8.22.

So disgusted to see him blow the save for Maddux's 350th last night. Gotta root for the former Brave!

Peter Gammons said on the radio today that Maddux won a game a week and a half ago without throwing a pitch over 83 mph. That blew my mind.

It's is crazy deceptive movement on all of his pitches. I love the inside cutter to left handed hitters as it tails back over the plate

Maddux couldn't consistently hit 90 on the gun even when he was winning four Cy Youngs in a row. He's doing the same things he's always done; it's just that everything is 5 mph slower than it used to be. Which is why he's merely a good pitcher now instead of a great one.

Anybody who's a fan of Maddux and hasn't seen this article needs to read it:
