Somebody help me please...Where I live, rarely are any TN BBall games ever shown. The only time we get to see either the men or women is when they play local teams (i.e. Purdue and Notre Dame).

However, by a stroke of luck (and Purdue just absolutely stinking the place up) I got to see the Lady Vols play this weekend. I noticed they now play on a floor emblazened with "The Summit". My question is when did this happen???

I think it is totally cool!!!

She didn't break Dean Smith's record. The last time I checked, she has the same number of D1 men's victories as Triumph the Insult Comic Dog.

You proving me wrong on anything, except maybe the chemical composition of your bong water, isn't going to happen. Summit holds the women's record, that's cute and all. Please don't give me this PC crap about her being the winningest D1 coach. Let's compare apples to apples if there's going to be a debate. Also, a large number of Summit's victories were when UT was a member of the AIAW, not the NCAA for purposes of women's athletics. Subtract those wins and she still trails Smith in D1 wins.

give the lady her credit she deserves.

maybe its tougher in mens bball, but the fact of the matter is she has the most wins.

I think its great that UT is such a perrenial powerhouse at CWBB, but I just can never see the sport taking off in terms of really being popular nationwide. Out of curiosity, have they ever really sat down and ACCURATELY accounted for the expense of running the UT CWBB program versus its revenue? If your progrma cannot turn a "profit" for the school, then none can. I have got to think that CWBB on the whole loses a fortune every year.

As a whole, I'm sure women's basketball is a financial loser. The Lady Vols make a decent profit, and have for a fair number of years.

I'll give her credit, I'm just not going to overstate her accomplishments by placing them in the same league with the men's record.

The Lady Vols basketball team broke even prior to the 1998 season, and has continued to turn profits since. I would argue, and I am not a fan of women's bball, that NCAA Women's basketball is more popular than NCAA Baseball...

For those eat up with ignorance Pat Summitt owns the D-1 reacord for wins not Dean Smith. That is a FACT and all your crying and chauvinist caveman rants doesn't change that but shows exactly what type of person you really are. Go sit will small Mike because your mind is a small and shollow as his and you don't deserve the right to be a Tennessee Vol fan!

"Reacord?" Shollow?" Learn to spell before you attack other people's intellect. Also, why does Summitt get to count the AIAW wins? Does that mean if Carson Newman joins D1 tommorow Ken Sparks automatically becomes one of the winningest coahes of all time? Also, 67 , does this mean you think the UNC women's soccer coach is the greatest coach in NCAA history? Nobody has dominated their sport as he has. If you're not going to draw the distinction between a sport with a half a billion dollar contract and a niche sport whose championship game is on cable, that's your delusion. Your Alan Alda "sensitive guy act" would be laughable if it weren't so pathetic. How is it a chauvinist statement to point out there is a difference between the men's game and the women's game?

I don't see it as a debate. I'm puzzled why Lady Vol fans can't simply be happy with Coach Summitt's accomplishments. It is like they have some desperate need for validation and they attempt to fill said need by trying to interject her records into an arena where they don't compute. How many wins would Dean Smith or Bob Knight have if only 15-20 other schools really committed resources to men's basketball? The women's game doesn't have competitive depth. That's just a fact. It doesn't make the women's game bad or inferior, it just isn't intellectually honest to compare it to the men's game.

The vast majority of the basketball world doesn't pay any more than passing attention to the women's game. Also, given UT's record in Final Four games against UCONN, I don't think I would be using Geno's ladies as an example of someone Summitt has success against. Again, it's a simple fact, the same 10-15 teams win every year in women's basketball. Part of it is certainly attributable to those schools having great coaches like Summitt, Auriemma, etc. The other driving factor is that most schools, following the interests of their fan base, don't commit resources to their women's program.

And what is the face value on a UT or Duke women's ticket compared to a men's ticket? Volkwagen sells more cars than Maserati. I guess VW has a better product by your logic. Check the numbers across college hoops. Indiana, Kentucky, and Kansas would be good places for you to start. Compare men's and women's attendance at those places.

I will also make this point one final time: CBS pays half a BILLION dollars for the rights to the men's tournament. Comparably, the women's tournament is on CABLE.

I understand what you are trying to say, but personally I wouldn't care if Pat's wins came in tiddly winks. She deserves the recognition.
