Doesn't mean she's incapable, just means history is against ANYONE doing it.(vols2345 @ Jan 12 said:and that automatically makes her not capable of doing it? I really aint trying to start nothing with you and i really have nothing wrong with you at all man. i dont want this to get out of hand it just this subject is really touchy. so i am going to stop on it and say we are BOTH RIGHT!!!
Free throws are a mental thing and women are much smarter than men , just ask my wife and any other woman you know.(hmanvolfan @ Jan 13 said:And I've got circles under my eyes. Coach Summitt doesn't need my or anybody elses support to validate what she has done for womens college basketball. I've got a question. Has anybody noticed how freakin accurate the ladies are on the free throw line? Why can't the guys shoot from the line like that? Maybe it has something to do with coaching. Maybe it's something else. But it is amazing.
Not degrading her accomplishments. Simply putting them in proper context.(DKG534 @ Jan 13 said:I just don't understand why it irritates so many "Vol" fans to say that Pat Summit is the winningest D-I basketball coach of all time. Dean Smith has less of a problem with that statement than a lot of guys on this board do. I think we should be proud that someone affliated with UT Athletics has achieved such a great accomplishment, its just plain stupid for "Vol" fans to want to degrade the accomplishment of one of our own.

Please provide any quote where Dean Smith says the men's game and the women's game are "equal playing fields."(MemphisVol @ Jan 13 said:Not in the ESPN sponsored dunk and shooting competitions- which is one of the reasons it's such a burn on the guys. The women not only are better shooters, but are using a different ball than they do in competition.
That was the point of the guy I was talking about who just couldn't handle hearing any praise for women's sports without feeling compelled to assert male superiority (an applied definition of misogyny).
I figure if Dean Smith says she outdid him on an equal playing field, then disagreeing is pretty pointless unless you're as good a coach as either one of them.
I attended the dunk and three point contests during the Final Four in '03. The ladies used the women's ball during their portion of the competition.(MemphisVol @ Jan 13 said:Not in the ESPN sponsored dunk and shooting competitions- which is one of the reasons it's such a burn on the guys.
