You voted for someone for president instead of voting against their opponent?

For instance, if you voted for Bush in the last election was it because you were really pumped about Bush being president for 4 more years or was it because you were scared poo-less of a Kerry presidency? Or if you voted for Kerry, did you really, really want Kerry in the WH or were you more concerned with getting Bush out of it?

I've never done it and I don't see how people are doing it in this election. The difference between these two candidates is huge.

I wasn't old enough, but I think I would have felt good about a Reagan vote.

I would also imagine that many loved the opportunity to vote for Clinton.

I turned 18 on election day in 1980. I voted for Ronald Reagan. That might be the last time it was primarily for a particular person. In 1984, I voted Reagan again but it wasn't with the same optimism for a candidate.

1988 was my first Presidential election and the only time I've ever voted specifically for a candidate. I voted for HW Bush and I think I voted for Wallace Wilkinson to be governor of Kentucky (I was going to college in Berea at the time).

1992-Clinton
1996-Dole
2000-Bush
2004-Bush

I don't remember if I've ever voted in mid-term elections.

2000 - Gore
2004 - Kerry
2008 -Obama

I was excited about Gore and I am excited about Obama. Not so much for Kerry, I voted against Bush that year more than for Kerry.

At first I was behind Gore but the more I listened to him speak he just came off as ignorant to me.

I'm 6 months older, felt exactly the same way.

1976 - Was turning flips because I wasn't old enough to vote against that peanut farmer.
1980 - Reagan - Voted for him
1984 - Reagan - Proudly and happily voted for him (stood in line over an hour). I was living in Arizona, and helped vote McCain into his first Congressional term in that same election.
1988 - Bush Sr. - Voted for him
1992 - Bush Sr. - Voted for him
1996 - Dole - Voted for him
2000 - Bush - Voted against Gore
2004 - Bush - Voted against Kerry
2008 - McCain - Voting against Obama

My first vote was GHW Bush against Clinton. I voted for Bush because he was big on military funding.

1996 - Against Clinton because he was in the midst of creaming our services.
2000 - Against Gore because he pandered to the nutjob crowd and would continue to be weak on the military
2004 - Against Kerry for myriad reasons.
2008 - Against Obama because he's unqualified and he's the most liberal candidate of my lifetime.

I have never voted for someone, but I am only 28.

This will change this time around...... to a point.
