PSU was a special case. Ncaa usually drag their feet and make them sweat. They used the Freeh report as their investigation on PSU. I doubt they are done with Miami.

I look for Miami to be almost as bad as Penn State. However, Miami has always been the fair haired child of the NCAA.

Found this

Amid all of the talk about Penn State, a new report came out that Miami broke recruiting rules by using an "off-the-books recruiter" by the name of Sean "Pee-Wee" Allen, who, according to the Yahoo! Sports report, was an associate of Nevin Shapiro who used illegal recruiting methods to lure recruits such as Elston Lane and and Devonta Freeman.

These allegations are new and are being investigated.

Alot of people on here are hoping it is soon so we can poach. I look for FSU and UF to benefit the most.

Investigation still in progress I believe. They have to confirm what the convicted criminal said as they can't go on his word alone. Also, the recent accusations about Golden's staff may figure in, which might mean extra time.

Miami will get hit about the same time as Alabama and Auburn...

Can only hope they all get hit badly--
The amount of teams finding themselves in hotter water are quite staggering
Ohio State
Michigan
Nebraska
Penn State
usc
UNC
West Virginia
UC
Boise State
South Carolina

Florida State? still this season or off?
And to add to that--glad we are not on this list

please elaborate

I'm thinking he means...never! Tongue in cheek of course.

MIA has to much go national. Bama and auburn keep each other in check and hold over all they have on each other over each others heads.

Miami is in just as bad trouble as PSU if not worse. Time will probably bring out more. My guess is that they don't get sanctioned for a while

Miami has to be given a proper investigation first, so it will take some time. Claims and actual actions have to be verified, etc

They did what.....are you serious

Yes, this guy payed for at least one player's girl friend to have an abortion.

"At a cost that Shapiro estimates in the millions of dollars, he said his benefits to athletes included but were not limited to cash, prostitutes, entertainment in his multimillion-dollar homes and yacht, paid trips to high-end restaurants and nightclubs, jewelry, bounties for on-field play (including bounties for injuring opposing players), travel and, on one occasion, an abortion."

If half of that is true, I think they get something far more severe than Penn State ever thought possible.

Someone paid for a player's wife's or girlfriend's abortion

(personal stances on the matter aside)

While there's a religious/moral/ethical societal debate over matters regarding this issue, realistically - because what the NCAA is about, and regarding said action, what is or was legal at the time of the action - it likely won't receive any heavier weight or input (though admitting here people could debate the "should" factor)...unless the NCAA chooses to go rogue white knight here

That all said though, we should probably try to leave the debates on the specific action (abortion) to a proper forum like the politics board (rather than hijack this thread with it)

Only problem is, like someone else posted - believing a covicted criminal with an ax to grind :ermm:

The difference between Miami and PSU is that Miami there isn't a public clamour on Miami to commit seppuku.

Basically Penn State paid Freeh to investigate, stipulated to all the facts and accepted their penalty without appeal. Miami won't be that helpful if at all in helping the NCAA investigate them.

Miami has been given the official letter from the NCAA detailing its charges, now Miami is waiting for the penalties to be announced. PSU happened so quickly because the NCAA and Freeh worked in an experdited manner.

All this "as bad or worse than PSU" is ludicrous. The PSU administration actively covered up numerous child rape allegations, and that was verfied through a criminal trial of Sandusky as well as Freeh's independant iinvestigation.

All we know about the Miami stuff is that Nevin Shapiro says this or that happened and has very little evidence to back anything up. The current Miami players implicated were investigated, sat out a handful of games last year and were then cleared by the NCAA. What the rest of the investigation uncovers is anyone's guess.

As for the new allegations, who knows about those. To my knowledge they're just allegations made by the Yahoo! Sports journalist Charles Robinson at this point, and Al Golden himself made a public statement denying the charges. We'll see about those, too.

I'm not saying Miami skates, but don't expect anything in the ballpark of what PSU got. Maybe along the lines of USC for the Bush stuff, depending on what parts of Shapiro's stories can be verified.
