Where did this term come from in regards to the whole Gruden thing?

Serious question. I'm just curious.

It's a military term. They deploy smoke in order to mask movement.

Never mind, only read the title.

I'm not sure. I don't pay much attention to conspiracy theorists. Unless it's about bird people.

It had to have been created to keep hope alive even though all those in the press were saying it was never going to happen. In order for some to believe Gruden was coming, they also had to believe the media was kept in the dark and didnt know anything. I said many times I thought the "smokescreen" theory was ridiculous, but in hind sight most of it was ridiculous.

smoke screen- a term that has been adopted by media regarding certain issues in order to throw the public off the trail as to conduct business in some sort of privacy.

This Gruden thing was so much fun I'm thinking about jumping on the basketball forum and starting one about Phil Jackson...but I like Martin. Think about it, though. Jackson used to coach Michael Jordan...who played for the Bulls...who once played a pre-season game at UT in the late '80's....AND Phil Jackson loves Ott's BBQ (who doesn't?)! Hell, if you can't connect those dots, something is wrong with you!

The OGs started it. Claimed that there would be a lot of smokescreens and misdirection before the hiring of Gruden became official. I guess to keep the urban legend, or in this case, the country myth alive.

smokescreen came from a delusional fan base that wanted to believe so badly that a NFL not college, let me repeat, NFL coach would come down and coach in Knoxville with less money and more restrictions over a job in the NFL. he used us to get us name out there and that's all it was. damn it guys get the **** over it and stfu about it
