Where is Bertelkamp?

I think Steve Hamer brings more to the table in the analyst role.

He talks about the whole game and what Tennessee needs to work on.

Bert is quick at recognizing defenses and seeing plays developing. He has a PG perspective. Hamer obviously sees things from the inside out. They’re both far more cerebral than Bob.

Maybe Bertlecamp and Hamer could be co analysts in the future like they do on NBA telecasts and CBS telecasts.

Bert is about 66. I’ll be surprised if he sticks around in that role after Bob and Barnes retire. Enjoy the elite status of the program. It could easily be a couple of generations before TN is back at this level.

I trust that Danny White will have a solid replacement when Barnes retires and so glad that he will be calling the shots. Tennessee has proven that you can win at a high level in Knoxville, like any of the bluebloods.

In the mean time, Barnes still has a lot of gas in the tank and has at minimum, a Final Four to achieve. 🥳 I am convinced this is the year.

Bert was a high school buddy as we were in the same class at Bearden. Class act then and definitely 'MONEY' now. I could see the 3 of them (Bert, Bob, Barnes) retiring together. Wouldn't that be awesome?

I'd be thrilled if just Bob retired.

Our good hire rate is about 40% historically but I can see that getting better moving forward. The university has a strong financial commitment right now so two or three hires at the most puts us back on top. Wouldn't be suprised if we get it right the first time.

bert's dad was one of the great tennessee basketball supporters. Bert was several years behind me in HS, note pix at end with his dad in 1982

Hasn't been on recent radio broadcasts.
I really don't miss him. I've grown tired of his shouting something corny right when the ball goes in the basket, talking over Kesling's description of the action (which ordinarily would be a good thing). "TALK TO ME, ZAKAI!" "MONEY!" He doesn't understand that the radio audience doesn't see what he sees. Would much prefer a color commentator that offers some unique insight after the play is over rather than have a drinking buddy sitting on the sofa next to me, beer in hand, shouting at the TV.

I love him. We need more homer announcers, not stiffs like Slob

The post game interview last night was introed as the "Ricky and Bobby Show", not sure if Barnes had a hand in that or not, but it is an accurate description and a laugher after completely disassembling Vanderbilt at home, game was over 5 minutes in, free Chikfila chicken was in the bag before the 10 minute mark, lots of uniforms to wash today

Bert is the one that makes the broadcasts enjoyable.

It’s far better than trying to figure out which team just made a good play when Bob calls it. I think he gets just as excited when the opponent scores as when UT does.

Bert had a Bearden teammate named Tom. Hmm…

Not if we hire the right coach....

Enjoy the top 5.

“If we hire the right coach” won’t be a slam dunk. But at least Dickey and Fulmer won’t be involved.

Fans of Gonzaga, KY, LSU, Indiana, Georgetown, UCLA, Florida, Villanova, Michigan, even UNC and Duke, all thought/think that great coaches would/will be lining up to take their programs to the top.
