I noticed that Pickett was back with DY on kick off returns. Anyone know why Evan Berry wasn't back there? Also, I like DY's first burst of speed, but he always seems to go down into turtle mode as soon as he gets touched by a defender.

I agree with you on DY. Prepare to be blasted by the "you shouldn't criticize a Vol" crowd.

Probably want to take this one up with Butch...since he's in charge of those decisions?...maybe he's saving the more explosive option to unveil in a big game...or he's a CATCH THE BALL AND DON'T FUMBLE snob? :dunno:

If DY was from anywhere else but Knoxville he would getting the Blair treatment. Local kids get a pass

Nominating Von Pearson, he was caught on tape catching the ball with one hand, PR and KO should be a breeze.

I wasn't criticizing DY (I like DY and appreciate the effort he puts out), however I was critiquing his kick off returns.

I just want to see a real threat back there fielding kick off. It's an easy catch compared to punts but you have to have that fearless attitude to try and bust that first wave of defenders. DY just doesn't seem to have that gear.

Before this season I was very excited to see our new and improved return game. After Game 1, I think as a Tennessee fan we are just going to have to accept that we will not be a threat in that department. Devrin is the safe bet. He catches, he doesn't fumble, and he gets you to the 20. That's pretty much all he does, and all he's going to do. We got a bit spoiled by CP but I don't think Butch is willing to take that kind of risk with our explosive playmakers like VP. Devrin is fast but he doesn't make people miss, so I highly doubt he's ever going to house one.

Is what it is I guess.

He will house one this year bearing injuries. Count on it.

I hope that Butch removes DY from any kick or punt return team. His choppy feet move fast, but the rest of his bey is going no where.

Maybe this is part of what CBJ was talking about when he said that special teams needed "major, major, major" improvement. It seemed like they were playing it safe in a lot of areas last Sunday. Maybe he hasn't seen the consistency he wants in practice. :dunno:

Nailed it! Nice kid but below average return ability.
