Well, for one reason we got our a**es handed to us 41-18. Living and working in the Nashville area doesn't help anything either. Do you get the chance to listen to 104.5
the zone at all? Makes me sick.
Well 102.5 in Nashville has turned into an Alabama radio network stadium. This morning they were playing commercials advertising they were the official product of the Alabama Crimson Tide and the station was advertising they were a proud member of the Bama radio network. I almost puked. IT IS REALLY BAD.
Hart was right when he said that we are at a crossroads. We can either be like Alabama when they got Saban and pull ourselves out of a slump after close to a decade, or be like Notre Dame when they hired Weis and sink deeper for another decade. Like the OP said, were low on cash but have great facilities and a great fanbase, lets hope for the best.
With either big money or medium numbers, what we cannot afford to do is pay for another losing situation. We're already doing that. Throwing money at the problem will not guarantee good results. I hope Hart will find a proven winner with a staff of top assistants lined up before he green lights any deal. The country is full of good coaches, and we need to take a chance on an up and comer, but we just cannot afford to take that risk.
Spurrier would be my first choice.
The only up side to where we are now is that there is no where to go but up....we are certainly in uncharted waters. I guess some Vol fans may indeed temper their passion for Tennessee Football because we are at an all time low....and rising back to the SEC elite will be a very painful and slow experience....this has been a product of 8-9 years to get to this point and it could take another 5-6 years to truly regain respectability....reality sucks sometimes. I know that I will have to just relax and not let the emotional roller coaster of Tennessee football ruin my weekends any longer, after all it's just a game...a very small part of the larger picture known as Life.
The only place to go is up with the W/L record. But Dooley did not leave the program devastated. To the contrary, he left a roster of good athletes with real potential to become a winning team. With the right staff, I don't think we are looking at a long rebuilding project.
Spurrier is a great coach, with what he did at Florida, and what he is doing at South Carolina, there is no doubt. None. But first choice? Really? There are some great coaches out there that are younger, and would be a better fit. Spurrier is, and should always remain, an adversary.
