Financially strapped from construction and low attendance, the AD is paying Fulmer and Dooley with all his assistants. We do have a fan base, good facilities, and a decent group of players. Do we have an AD who can make winning decisions and alumni who will dig deep to finance them?

I'll tell you where we're at. We're at a point where we are getting trash talked by Vandy fans! As if Al, Fl, and Ga wasn't enough. Now Vandy!

Get a great coach, start winning and the fans will fill the stadium and pay all the bills.

Dunno why Vandy is talking trash. They still suck.

Well, for one reason we got our a**es handed to us 41-18. Living and working in the Nashville area doesn't help anything either. Do you get the chance to listen to 104.5
the zone at all? Makes me sick.

Hart was right when he said that we are at a crossroads. We can either be like Alabama when they got Saban and pull ourselves out of a slump after close to a decade, or be like Notre Dame when they hired Weis and sink deeper for another decade. Like the OP said, were low on cash but have great facilities and a great fanbase, lets hope for the best.

We have a defeated team, with an almost full roster of good players...

we have a roster of good players in a lower conference but not in the SEC.....what does it take for some people to see that our talent level is at an all time low...geez people...wake up!

Well 102.5 in Nashville has turned into an Alabama radio network stadium. This morning they were playing commercials advertising they were the official product of the Alabama Crimson Tide and the station was advertising they were a proud member of the Bama radio network. I almost puked. IT IS REALLY BAD.

It's gonna take a while to fix this lack of talent and speed on Defense. You're right.

With either big money or medium numbers, what we cannot afford to do is pay for another losing situation. We're already doing that. Throwing money at the problem will not guarantee good results. I hope Hart will find a proven winner with a staff of top assistants lined up before he green lights any deal. The country is full of good coaches, and we need to take a chance on an up and comer, but we just cannot afford to take that risk.

Spurrier would be my first choice.

The only up side to where we are now is that there is no where to go but up....we are certainally in uncharted waters. I guess some Vol fans may indeed temper their passion for Tennessee Football because we are at an all time low....and rising back to the SEC elite will be a very painful and slow expierience....this has been a product of 8-9 years to get to this point and it could take another 5-6 years to truly regain respectability....reality sucks sometimes. I know that I will have to just relax and not let the emotional roller coaster of Tennessee football ruin my weekends any longer, after all it's just a game...a very small part of the larger picture known as Life.

Spurrier is a great coach, with what he did at Florida, and what he is doing at South Carolina, there is no doubt. None. But first choice? Really? There are some great coaches out there that are younger, and would be a better fit. Spurrier is, and should always remain, an adversary.

Its funny I was thinking about this earlier there is no way I could pull for the Vols with Spurrier or Meyer at the Helm I just couldn't bring myself to do it.

I really hate Florida, and any coach associated with that program.

Lets get back to what really matters while the coaching search is ongoing,

HATING FLORIDA AND ALABAMA

The only place to go is up with the W/L record. But Dooley did not leave the program devastated. To the contrary, he left a roster of good athletes with real potential to become a winning team. With the right staff, I don't think we are looking at a long rebuilding project.

This is what I believe. We now have a full roster with some darn good athletes, they just need coaching. It is amazing how quickly a good coach can turn things around. The problem is, and it is a huge problem, that Alabama, LSU, Florida, and Georgia are stacked with talent. But I have to have hope.

Yes, really. Fans would not have accepted Spurrier to replace Fulmer or even Kiffin. But now I think most would welcome him, although it might go against some of our former players. Personally, I would not want Urban Meyer; I flat out do not like him, but I hold no particular grudge against Steve Spurrier. He was a Tennessee boy who played QB at Florida because Tennessee didn't recruit him. We took Doug Dickey back, why not Steve Spurrier? The man has been away from Florida for a very long time, and he has paid his dues the hard way.

It is true that other SEC teams have top athletes. That is a reason Spurrier would be a good choice. He would coach the players we have and immediately compete for the best recruits. I think he has respect for Tennessee's rightful place in the SEC and would take us there. Maybe he wouldn't make the move at his age, but I wish Hart would make a seriously good offer.
