Tennessee has the unique opportunity to host a top five ranked team at home while they are also ranked in the top ten! Stop for one second and think about what that means on the national scale and recruiting. A short eighteen months ago, we felt that Pruitt had put the final nail in the coffin of the Vols football program. We were beyond pissed as apathy started to infiltrate the fan base, why should we care anymore or spend our money on a program that the University had fumbled and bumbled for 15 years. We witnessed the highest forms of coaching ineptitude, corrupt Kiffin, inept Dooley, Cheesy Cliché Jones and Potato Head Pruitt, not to mention Schiano Sunday and the terrible string of Athletic Director hires.

UT finally got it right with the hiring of Danny White, who immediately saw how mishandled the Volunteer athletic department was and how much frustration that had built up in the fanbase. DW got to work changing the narrative and trajectory of Volunteer athletics. He hired Heupel, not a sexy hire by any stretch of the imagination but it was Danny White's imagination that saw a vision with Heupel leading the program to prominence, which we are witnessing in real time, sooner than many of us expected.

So here we are, 2.5 days before the biggest game Neyland has seen since September 24th this year, which was the biggest game Neyland had seen since 2016. Two monumental games this season against our biggest rivals and it is all the media can talk about. College Gameday is coming back and we can loudly enjoy our Vols and Neyland stadium being the pinnacle of College Football for the second time in this young season. This Vol team has its flaws, but it also has great strengths and something a lot of past Vols teams didn't have, a never give up attitude. If Tennessee wins this epic game, they are in the drivers seat to get to the Playoffs, if they lose, they will still be in the passengers seat with work to be done. Most importantly, enjoy this moment, make sure your children enjoy it, for they are the next generation to carry the fandom and it is about time they witness Bama losing in Neyland.

Regardless of outcome, this program is way ahead of schedule in a rebuild that many thought would take half a decade to be relevant. Do not fret over a loss this weekend, I feel that this team will respond to a loss with hellfire on the next 6 opponents.

Football is fun again, enjoy it, embrace it and remember it!!

80% of us owe Danny White an apology. I feel like I need to send him a letter. 😁
I had unfair advantage of having both my kids graduate from UCF and also living here in Central Florida. I knew they both were homerun hires. Also knew of Danny's reputation as possibly the best up and coming AD in US. Josh had a great reputation with the players and I loved watching the team. I couldn't believe Tenn was so fortunate.

It really is remarkable to consider where we've been relative to where we are right now. The right hires appear to have been made. And we had a little bit of luck with the transfer of HH.

I am most excited with how our coaches are "coaching up" the players they have. I feel like it has been an eternity since we've watched a UT team play above their star rankings.

I'm still too stressed about this game to fully appreciate (maybe that's not the word I'm thinking of, maybe I'm trying to say "feel" or "internalize" or something) what you're saying but I love and agree with all of this. Go Vols and where's my whiskey lol

It is really cool to hear a UCF Mom perspective and feedback on Heupel and White, welcome to Volnation!

In the words of a old and great song...

"We've only just begun"

I can't even dream how much better we can be 2 seasons from now.

I'm not so much of the school of "we were wrong" about previous hires, as I am that we became conditioned, you know, kind of like those Pavlovian dogs. The UTAD rang the bell and we salivated. That is, until the bowl was always empty. Then we got leery of that damn bell, so the Danny White and CJH hires were naturally met w skepticism by many good folks right here on Vol Nation. Good news for us is that each hire now looks to be paying off and that when those infamous words spread across the hallowed grounds of University of Tennessee on a Fall afternoon (It's Football Time in Tennessee), we collectively salivate because we know that a tasty meal is coming!

I am 100% concentrating on Tennessee -vs- Alabama. But, there are other games that could really make this a "special" week-end. I will definitely keep an eye on Penn State -vs- Michigan AND Utah -vs- USC. -- Imagine the possibilities!!!!!!!!

And I hope that LSU & Florida KICK THE $#!+ OUT OF EACH OTHER!!!
